They list as admin fee, I got charged R380 back in 2016.

Despite giving TNT my import number, a gift from family in UK, an LED light for arthritis which was valued at $100 , they have sent me an invoice for R1000.00 for VAT etc ?????????
Can I just send it back?

Whether you have an import code or not does not affect the customs fees payable. My calcs put it at around R650, LED's carry a 20% duty. Then TNT rips you a new one with their ridiculous clearance fee on top of that.

Told them to send it back to China using shippers account number.............

Thankfully I don't have it nor have I paid anything.

TNT charges like R450 just to clear the parcel no matter the value most of the time.

Just check the restrictions on packaging as Hong Kong may differ from S Korea in terms of content. I suggest go with DHL or recognized logistics company.

Example I had those little anti moisture sachets (can't recall what you call them now) in my goods and courier in Hong Kong would not send them without having it removed first.

Be prepared to deal with local customs, helps if you're in the Gauteng area so you can actually pay them a visit.

Choices are limited from that side of the world. Maybe speak to a local import / forwarding agent for assistance, that's what I eventually did.

Hi all

So I've come to import things quite frequently and someone said it would make more sense if I register as an importer.

I've got the form from SARS, but I'm not sure what to complete under "Clearance of Imports" - link to the form .

Anybody have experience with this?

You tick the box next to Clearing agent on the first line if you are not a foreign importer.

So as I understand when importing you will always have to register with SARS but you dont always need an Import permit from ITAC.
How can I find out if I need an import permit or not?
Also if it is a pain to get register with SARS as an importer can anyone recommend a company that is legit and can assist with this? TIA!

It's so easy to register as an importer at SARS.You can get DA 185 form from their website www.sars.gov.za. Tick the box next to importer and exporter. You can visit any Customs offices near you and ask Client Interface department. They will assist you free of charge.
