Registry hack for better latency?

Hello,

I have heard people talking about applying a registry hack to improve latency somewhat, could anyone explain to me what this is about or how it works?

And does this still work? I read on the wow forums that since patch 2.something that this hack does nothing anymore?

I dont think thats right... :confused:

I had the patch before the latest one now (doom) , and I used the reg hack and it made quite the difference... TBH it wasnt huge, but it was something! and that is better than nothing!

But then that was on a shaped adsl 4mb line. I have since moved over to unshaped prepaid with webafrica.. AWESOME!!

Some nights when its late I get sub 200ms pings, but generally it sits around 250ms. But with all this Zombie ***** that is going on and extra ppl on the server, all ping times are F'ed right now... :mad:

Some of the features were included however not all of them.

The reghack however can affect your download speeds from Websites so it isn't to be taken lightly :)
 
i am running the reg hack on vista, and it has taken my latency down to between 200-300 on a good day, 300-350 on a bad day.
I was worried out it affecting other applications, but i have had no problems downloading international torrents at over 400kbps, and the local patches at the same speeds.
*ports 80, 21 and torrents dont seem to be affected for me*

The 'hack' is still very valid, I've done quite abit of testing on it.

If you google the words 'household hacker wow ping' you should come up with a nice video showing you how to do it quite easily.

My tests for interests sake.

Mweb ISP -384k line shaped - No Hack = 800 to 1200ping
Mweb ISP -384k line shaped - Hack On = 650 to 900ping
NexusISP -384k line semi shaped - No hack = 600-850ping
NexusISP -384k line semi shaped - Hack On = 430-600ping

You can feel the difference hugely, this is to EU servers.

I have had no negative effects from it whatsoever, I use everything internet related quite alot.

And i dont take any responsibillity if you break your registry :P

i actually need to downgrade, R750 a month for 4mbit powa has lost its usefulness to me.
 
R750 for 4mbit ? Thats a lot - what type of cap do you get with that ?
I pay R300 for 2mbit with 2gb cap.

sometimes I feel like im waisting my 4mb line coz I cant really download anything... too expensive with the caps in this country!
 
Would this hack help on a Virgin Mobile EDGE connection to improve Skype latency? BTW the video has been removed from YouTube. Any other resources showing the hack?

You have problems with Skype latency??? I really doubt any hack or registry fix will solve that issue. To have voice lag the latency must be in excess of 1000ms, and normaly you wont even notice it. I think your mobile connection is the problem.

That video is meant for Windows Vista, i am running windows XP will this also work for me?
