I wonder how that will hold up on when you put it on car (a larger scale). Also I wonder what it will do to traction etc etc.

If these "wheels" reduce fuel usage, then I am sure there will be a market for them.

Pretty neat! They should first test it on something that will brake a lot before moving to car tyres, don't know if a skateboard will have enough braking to test the wear and tear

I doubt that these wheels will ever be able to compete with car tires. I did some research a while back, concerning tread patterns, for 3D tires I was creating. Here are some examples of the science behind tread patterns. Of course, one can just Google "technology of tire treads" for more info.
