Reject SABC interim board, says Cosatu

Do these guys ever stop? They disagree with everything.

sound like a DA winner , though they are running us just further into the grave and out on the china side...

Yup, there will be no board unless 2 months of portfolio discussions are entered into. By that time the SABC will be beyond recovering and financial ruined. All employees will be retrenched and the masses will not be able to watch their soccer.

Only then will COSATU have won.

Are they saying... ther are... too many... white folks? I don't know if I understand this correctly. Class as in social status? Occupation?

I hope I am reading this wrong.

"It said the board was "yet again" dominated by business people, with nobody representing civil society, including the labour movement."

This is the problem; it was run by political appointments and not by people use to running a big corporate. Who cares what color or “class” they are, as long as they can do a good job, and in so doing provide the “workers” have a sustainable job and income. If the company is run by token appointments then the unions can’t have the workers best interests at heart.

Ugggh My titles have to many swear words in ....

There are a couple of things that just makes me go all yuk inside and the SABC is so far one of them.
1. We have to pay them a license fee, for what so that they can waiste another 832 million on curtains and car instead of providing content that most people can watch.
2. Then after waisting so much money they ask for a cool 2 billion from government as a bail out.
3. Then they wanna pass legislation that will force you to pay another license fee if you have a mobile tv unit.

I can tell you that when a pay tv provider comes into the country where you can choose your channels I will really really ask them to block sabc channels.

I don't think that it's too much to ask that there be:
- 1 cosatu appointed board member
- 1 MyBroadband board member
- 1 CANSA board member
- 1 Sharks board board member
- 1 Margate Golfers Club board member
...

I thought that government created legislation that the SABC must follow, and that that legislation was created with the consultation of the different "groups" of this country.

The only thing that should be required is that there be a monthly "inspection" of the SABC to determine if legislative conditions / requirements are being met.

But, please please please, make the board consist of people who make the correct decisions regarding running a business.

The SABC is not the government.

COSATU is insignificant as a representative of society. And its 'significance' is even less if you were to take into account exactly how many TV license holders it has as members.

why don't Cosatu become a political party? They backed the ANC in the last elections, and now the ANC are ignoring them!

The thing is COSATU are indirectly a political party. They are in bed with the ANC and SACP. The other thing is it is still an interim board (I'm assuming that JZ has not yet given his approval, after all he does have the final say). With that in mind I think COSATU are trying to make his mind up for him.

That said I think COSATU should become a political party in it's own right, since it's not happy with the way the ANC are running things (using this topic as an example). If they do I think they'll be in for a big shock (I doubt they will), as they have more power in bed with the ANC and SACP than they would if they went it alone. I can't see the "masses" voting for COSATU and that alone would kill them off. One can only hope :D
