Like it or not, most girls want to have their cake and eat it. At least in the beginning. They want to be treated as equals, but want you to open the car door for them. They want to have an equal standing in the household, but you must bring them flowers. (Which would be fine if they brought you a sex pack of bear every now and then) [Haha Freudian slip, I am leaving that there] .
Sure we can say that it is a 2 way street. But the hard reality is that in the beginning, guys have to put in 75% of the effort. Phone her a few times, but with enough of a gap that she misses you. So that she might be prompted to call you. Once you hit proper relationship status, it is easier to explain your position.
Also, sex is a different kettle of fish altogether with women. If you go away for a weekend with a girl, and bang like crazed rabbits. You phone her at some point, preferably the end of the next day if you are playing it cool. If you want to be a complete dick, then phone her 2 to 3 days later. If you want to be left outside in the cold, don't phone for a month.
Regardless of how busy you were, banging and then no contact is inexcusable unless you intend to send her the message that it meant diddly squat.

One way or another, you're paying to bonk them. Dinner, drinks and movies (often multiple times before you get a screw) is way more expensive than a hooker.
