Its still early days so I'm not expecting it anytime soon. But has Mtn or Vodacom announced anything yet?
Hopefully it will be here by early November?

21st for the USA
28th for most other countries (except us)
100 countries in december
so ye probably looking at a xmas release for us

Well, let's see ... when the 4S was announced, Vodacom set up a web form at the end of November last year where you could apply for one and promised to get back to you within a week or two. I am still waiting for them to get back to me.

When my contract ran out in August I actually had to call in a favour from a distant relative who works at VC to get my 4S. Moral of the story: if you walk past a VC or MTN store and there is a cardboard sign on the door saying "iPhone: we have stock", walk right in and grab one. They really don't send a lot of the things down this way.

Is it gonna be a screw up like the 4S release? :(

I saw an article from Vodacom saying it's available on pre-paid along with the prices and also a list of stores where they say you can get it....
I phoned almost every store within like a 25-30km radius in Pretoria but NOT A SINGLE STORE knew ANYTHING about pre-paid availability?!? They only wanted to sell them on contract or put me on a waiting list, which I did and only got a call in MARCH 2012 saying they have them in stock?!?!? WTF!!!!
That's a FAILED FAIL!

I really hope the local carriers and the people involved with the launch, grow a brain this year.

I mean, I bought one, my girlfriend bought one and as well as my mom, all second-hand and that's money Vodacom lost?!
And all this time we thought the carriers are greedy and would do anything to just to get our money?

If people want a contract, they'll get one, but why refuse extra sales by not selling it pre-paid?!

Still waiting for Vodacom to call me re iPhone 4!

Also had my name on various vodashop 'lists'. In the end I phoned Vodacom SP upgrades directly and had the phone delivered within a week (that was about 5 days after official launch on Dec 16 last year).

Dont bother with shops, phone them directly on 082 1959

And, would they have nanoSIM ready? iPhone5 would be a nice paperweight if there is no nanoSIM available!

Spoke to a guy at Cellucity before asking my friend to get me one from overseas....he told me that the iPhone 5 should be available in the first week of November. Not sure how legit his info was.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it here by end or next month or early November
Hope CellC gets it too around the same time

Launch date for 4s was 16 Dec 2011, think IP5 will also launch just prior to Xmas.

Just read a few articles on the web (ranging from US, UK and Aus sites). There's quite a few problems with the phone.

1. Light is leaking through the frame of the phone
2. Strange light bars are appearing on the top of the screen
3. People are receiving their phones straight out the box with scratches and dents on the frame or back plates.
4. The film on the camera is negatively affecting pictures taken in a bright setting - a purple-ish glare comes out on the edge of the pictures.

So in saying so... Will SA still get the 1st batch with these possible defects or will the 2nd batch with fixes arrive? I'd assume the latter as we only seeing the release around November?

?

Well if you want some real life experiences (my own):

1. No
2. No
3. No
4. No - although it might happen at a very particular angle pointed at a direct light source such as the sun. And apparently this can happen on top end DSLRs even. who's gonna go pointing their lens directly at the sun anyways? Not me.
