[RELEASE] DStv Now KODI Add-on

In the DSTV now app for android and even on the web browser.. all the channels shows under the more option and then tv guide. And only the 5 channels show in the live tv menu/option..

That is an issue with your smart card not being linked properly. Go to http://connect.dstv.com in a browser. login and check that your smart card number is linked. If it is, you need to phone dstv to sort it out.

Are you sure its not only showing the "recently watched channels" ... I know the Android app usually defaults to that menu, but if you press down or up, you get the menu to select the other options ??

No its not that. I have seen it multiple times when a smart card is not linked properly or linked to more than one email address then it shows 5 channels only. Fact that it's same in the addon confirms that cause the addon does not show recent channels under the live menu
 
Anybody using Matt's AUS/NZ free view channels with EPG on some platform ? I tested 1 or 2 channels within Web Video Caster and opening it using MXPlayer and it seemed to play , but casting live tv /IPTV usually is unsupportive using a Chromecast.
 
What is the required speed for the app as I have 10Mbps adsl line, when I watch through DSTV now app it is fine, when I watch via kodi, it buffers and stutters some time.

10mbps should be fine. What version of kodi and which platform? Did you change any network related settings in kodi?

Also, in the dstv addon settings --> playback --> set inputstream quality you can change the quality of the stream.

Come to think of it, the app sometimes dynamically adjusts your stream quality according to your internet speed whereas the addon is set to a specific quality. Try setting 4mbps (540p) in the app and work yourself up untill you get buffering - you line speed might not be a constant 10mbps

I am on Kodi 18.3, I made it 720p and set the inputstream to 2Mbps and that made it better. Also I am using a telkom lit box.
 
But if you have the Litbox, why mess with kodi in the first place ... why not use the playstore app that you confirmed plays fine?? ... no need for both surely?

The DSTV now app, does not give the same layout as Kodi with the schedule, I prefer the kodi app over the official app
 
Some of the buffering problem is from DSTV's side I think, because when watching the F1 the pre-race and post race program has no buffering whatsoever but as soon as the race starts, so does the buffering.
If you stop the stream and start it again sometimes it starts at a low resolution. My settings are also at 720p and lower, 1080 was too much for my connection.
I only really use it for the F1 so it may be different for other channels and events.

His worked fine in the app, problem was only in the kodi addon so cannot be on dstv side. The kodi addon keeps more strictly to the quality setting in the inputstream setting whereas the app will adjust according to your connection speed.
 
Does the "HD Channels" usually allow streaming at HD resolutions? Last night I could only get the Supersport channel stream at 1080p, while Mnet etc all streamed SD.

Nope. All Supersport channels can stream at 1080p, channels like mnet is max 720p and a channel like kyknet is max 540p. You can set your max quality in the settings of the addon. To check the quality while a channel is playing, press 'o' on your keyboard - the resolution is shown under 'player process info'

I assume you mean to avoid buffering? Not really - if your internet speed is too slow there's not much you can do. You can set the stream quality in the addon settings though.

Amlogic 912 box running CoreElec Kodi 18.3 with plugin 0.9.7

I certainly am seeing the same since this morning (it worked a charm last night), some logs below which seems to point to a license issue;

CCurlFile::FillBuffer - Failed: HTTP returned error 400
CCurlFile::Open failed with code 400 for http://license.dstv.com/widevine/getLicense
AddOnLog: InputStream Adaptive: License server returned failure
AddOnLog: InputStream Adaptive: License update not successful (no keys)
AddOnLog: InputStream Adaptive: Initialize failed (SingleSampleDecrypter)
CVideoPlayer::OpenInputStream - error opening [plugin://plugin.video.dstv.now/?_=play_ch...

I tried reinstalling, back to 0.9.4 and back to 0.9.7 with no luck.

Any thoughts perhaps or something else we can try?

Mine works fine. Also running on an Amlogic 912 box but using kodi 18.3

If after opening channel you see the blue play icon and it stops, its usually related to widewine issues
