Hey Guys

Any of you guys know/have a reliable car salesman/dealer in the Sandton/East Rand area. I am battling to get rid of a car because it seems like every second dealer is trying to F-me!

After Uncle Fazda retired, such things do not exist anymore..

He was the end of an era... :(

Probably better to flog it privately.

Do it privately; sure it's more effort but you'll end up getting a lot more for it.

Safety is just a pretty big concern with selling it privately...

If done vaguely intelligently it shouldn't be a problem..

Always meet at public places (like busy garages) take a person with you... etc etc..

It is getting to a point where doing a private sale is my only option. Settlement on the car is R190K best offer from a dealer is so far R155K its pathetic really, car is a 20months old ffs

Considering 2013 Ford focus 1.6's are going for 150-200k on autotrader, 155k is not that far off the mark.

Thank you! :o

Sorry, but you are not being screwed - 155k is the right number for your car.

Unfortunately Uncle Fazda is pretty much right... R155k is the right number for you car... at R190k settlement it makes no sense to sell the car just yet. You MAY get around R165k on a private sale, if you're lucky...

If you structure in such a way to have better cash flow, you'll always suffer most at the start.

72 months... Residuals... No deposit may make it better monthly, but don't expect to break even before 4 years.

Thanks for all the info guys, turns out I am sitting at R170K not R190K so I might be able to get it sold come next year June/Jule. I was lucky enough to get it at 4.5% so that helps. The only reason I want to get rid of it is because its a guzzler. I do 90% highway driving Germiston to Sandton ~100km/day and I only get 500km on a tank (55liters). So I am looking for something smaller and more economical.

Be very wary of getting rid of a car purely because it is a gas guzzler.. the economics of your decision may not make sense, especially since you are sitting at a 4.5% interest rate... do your sums VERY carefully before you actually take that leap.

this ^

increased interest rate possible.
selling might settle debt, but what about a deposit on the new/used car you are then gonna buy.
etc
etc
etc
etc.....

I simply cannot afford it so I have no choice! I was able to buy a R230K car at the time, but my financial situation has unfortunately changed for the worst so I am looking at buying second hand in the R100K-R150K range. I would love to keep the car its amazing but its either have a nice car or have money for food LOL.

where are you going to get money for the deposit on the cheaper car?
already you say selling it is to cover what you currently owe the bank. Taking a personal loan for say R15k comes at its own monthly payments and interest, normally at a rate close to what credit cards are charged. it will also incur a small monthly admin fee.
At what interest rate will you get the replacement?

call a dealer, ask about interest rates, deposits, on the road fees, etc....
then see if you still think it is cheaper. If you sell and buy a sub100k car, maybe 80k, it could then possibly be at a lesser monthly rate. Just be aware that much older cars often don't have maintenance and service plans left, so.... (you guessed it, you need to find that money too).

I do not envy you being between a rock and a hard place.
