Reliable car dealer needed !!!

where are you going to get money for the deposit on the cheaper car?
already you say selling it is to cover what you currently owe the bank. Taking a personal loan for say R15k comes at its own monthly payments and interest, normally at a rate close to what credit cards are charged. it will also incur a small monthly admin fee.
At what interest rate will you get the replacement?

call a dealer, ask about interest rates, deposits, on the road fees, etc....
then see if you still think it is cheaper. If you sell and buy a sub100k car, maybe 80k, it could then possibly be at a lesser monthly rate. Just be aware that much older cars often don't have maintenance and service plans left, so.... (you guessed it, you need to find that money too).

I do not envy you being between a rock and a hard place.

Yeap its a ****ty situation, I have ~R18K that I have put away for the past couple of month for when I find a good deal. As for the services and so on. I am looking out for demo/very low mileage cars that still have service plan. I have been looking at something like a Figo/i10 somthing in that class.

I am very aware of all the negative things about this but as you said its me being stuck between a rock and a hard place. But at the end of the day I need to look after my family.

try for an i10/picanto (older ones) especially for highway driving, make very good sense
and in traffic take very little fuel, I got a quite old (2010) picanto and so far drive about the same as you, from edenvale to woodmead daily,
so very similar route to you.

paid R40K for mine but on auction and with a stupidly large exhaust (that Im still trying to get rid of:p)
seen picantos/i10's similar to mine but with A/C, Electric windows ect for about 65K---80K.

to get an idea you can go to www.SMD.co.za and watch an auction live on the net to get an idea of what cars like this go for.
beware ghost buyers really push up the prices of wrecks these days but its a nice starting point to get an idea of what goes for what.

well I got mine with the gigantic exhaust, so big it has a hole cut into the bumper to fit it through....
(still cant believe there arent some boy racer out there wanting to exchange their standard exhaust for mine)
and a cone filter instead of the standard air filter, both of these cause the check engine light to stay on constantly.

but otherwise, really nice little car, small though, boot is really small for anything more than a few shopping bags
seats do fold though and then its a bit better, seats are comfortable, tank is about 45 liters total, and in traffic its a champ, hardly takes any petrol.

I saw you can get one for about 50-65K sometimes as low as 45K there's an old model and a face lifted model, and then the brand new one (115-130K).
up to you, as petrol is so expensive these days it makes sense in the long term to buy something smaller as most cars these days are small but well equipped.

just don't think its a sports car though, that it isnt! (although some charo thought so with mine:p)
