Hi all,

I hope I am posting in the right section...

I will be relocating from CPT to JHB soon and have a few things that I'd like your advice on please.

1. Suggestions on areas in and around Randburg to live in? (Safety, Security, Price, etc.)
2. Would you find a place prior to moving up, or would you initially go stay in a guest house or hotel, prior, and then search for a place when you're that side?
3. If you would initially stay in a guest house or hotel, do you have any suggestions of places that are nice as well as not ridiculously priced?
4. What advice do you have for me as a newbie JHB'er?

Cheers!

1. Blairgowrie,Parkhurst,Randburg,HoneyDew,Cresta
2. Find a place first
3. Can't comment
4. Don't look like a newbie, always have your phone in your pocket. Keep notice of your surroundings and learn a martial art. On the real though, I've lived in JHB all my life and I've never been robbed. Seriously keep track of whats going on around you, travel with friends at night if you don't know the area.

1. Ferndale, North Riding, Dunkeld, Craighall Park (in addition to the suburbs listed by Pheonix)
2. Try find a place first and have friends look for you. You can sign a short term lease first if you're worried. Or fly up first for a weekend and view a few places for peace of mind.
3. Tudor Lodge in Sunninghill?
4. Welcome to the rat race :D

For everyone saying "do not relocate" and asking why - it is for work, one which i really want.

And everyone else - thank you so far for the advice - keep it coming :)

You will enjoy living in Joburg. Randburg is the perfect area to enjoy everything the city has to offer.

It is important not to panic though. There is always TONS of accommodation up here, and they are always modern, clean, new developments . I have moved up and down to Jozi 3 times over the years. Each time, I go to the same area to the complexes I know, and find a place to rent within a week.

Live as close to your work as possible.
Rent first, see what the area is like, then hunt a deal.
Stay in a guest house before you move up, sometimes the conditions of the rental agreement wont suit your move schedule.

+1

Joburg actually get you to go out there and achieve something. Cape Town is for when you want to relax a bit. Great city though and lots of places to have decent + safe fun.

And bring your warm clothes, its Winter time here :D

Ah CPT has been surprising us the last couple days, we even had an unusual hail storm.
But yes, I hear JHB winter is much more fitting to the word "Winter", than we're used to this side :)
