Relocating to JHB or to PTA

There might be a very good opportunity for employment up in Gauteng for me. If I get the job then I will be taking my family with. The company has offices in Perequor Park, Pretoria and in Parkwood, Johannesburg. I'll have to decide which branch I'll be working from.

Which office would you choose and why? I am leaning towards the Pretoria one. Mainly for traffic reasons.

Which are good areas to live in with a decent schools? Somewhere not too far from the offices above. The idea is that we'll rent for a while before purchasing a property. Looking at spending max R7k per month on rent.
 
Pretoria without a doubt.
Its a much more relaxed life here than JHB, we also have outstanding schools, Waterkloof, Affies, Wonderboom and Menlo park comes to mind, Also nothing wrong with HTS John Vorster if you are looking for a technical school.

I have worked in JHB for quite some time, and NEVER, EVER wil i relocate to JHB.

You mentioned Perequor Park, thats not far from Lynnwood if im not mistaken, thats a very nice area and close to Waterkloof and Menlopark.

You get traffic either way , my best advice is to ensure that you are against traffic. I am not sure how big your family is or what type of unit you are looking for but if you are looking for a good area R7K per month may not be enough. you will most likely get a 2 bed 2 bath townhouse around 80sq in JHB if you are lucky , cant comment much about PTA as i dont know the prices.
 
You want to leave Cape Town for Gauteng, are you insane?
R7k per month gets you a small townhouse. No space to play for kids.
 
Pretoria. Definitely Pretoria. Lynwood or Brummeria or Murrayfield or or or , lots of great areas there.
 
You'll get much better value for money in Pretoria when it comes to housing.
 
Property prices (rentals) not any better in the Cape. I would have thought they would be far higher than up North. 7K will get
a dog kennel in Cape town in a good area.
 
Pretoria without a doubt... And for about R8k you can rent an oldish 3 bedroom house in the burbs if you know where to look (e.g. Lynnwood Glen ) ...

In Joburg you'll spend half of your Saturday mornings stuck in a traffic jam, pay more for food, and generally feel drowned out by the zillions of people pushing and shoving.

I live in Centurion and work in Perequor Park and I love this arrangement. 20min to and from work, but if cosatu feels like striking run...(or crawl home)
 
Travelling from Centurion to Lynnwood isn't bad. You can get a 3 bedroom place for R7K if you push it. And Gauteng is actually very safe. When I made the move from Cape Town to Gauteng I thought this would bother me, but I think it is actually safer here (Centurion) than there.
 
monument park and extension are nice,waterkloof ridge X2 (where i stay) also very nice.
 
I will first have to see what type of package this company would offer and decide whether it would be feasible to relocate.

What are the cost of primary school fees up in the Pretoria area?

Both ways are against the traffic, if you are younger go Centurion. And your chances of getting M@ered by a stray Bull's supporter are less, that's if you are a WP man!
 
Eco park Estate(very safe) to Perequor Park = 20km almost straight on and off the N1!

I actually work in Persequor Technopark, really like it here but be aware the security at the enterance is a joke (basically a guard just sitting there doing nothing, I am aware of a few cars that was stolen). Check how good the security is at the office block itself.

Food: one little take away place here, then the closest restaurant is in the CSIR complex, closest shopping centre is corner of lynnwood/meiring naude (checkers/pharmacy/wimpy/big panda/debonairs/steers). Need to drive there walking takes too long.

If you want to bike to work it is possible just know that meiring naude is a heart breaker, steep hill that goes on a long long way (at least it has a bike path)

Can basically stay anywhere here within 15 km and reach the office withing 10mins, look at the suburbs for pretoria east but do not go much further than Faerie Glen (traffic becomes a problem then)

Another though, you have kids. First look where you would like them to go to school. Staying in Lynnwood and having them go to Waterkloof will be a nightmare, you will be joining all the people going to work trying to get your kids to school.
