So I Am getting a new hard drive for this laptop I have with me, it's screen is busted but I want to use it as a download server instead of my Pc during the mornings.

What program would you recommend me to install to remote control the laptop via Lan with my Pc? VNC?

Think I'll give the built in remote desktop a try last time I tried to use it was Windows Xp and never could get it to work.

If it is a windows client just enable remote desktop... not sure why you'd want anything else as you don't need to provide remote support or anything.

I agree, why install extra goodies, when all you need to do is click a few links, or enable some torrents, just remote desktop.

Use "laptop name\username on laptop" to login.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on my Pc and Windows 7 Professional 64bit on the laptop.

I think I will first try the built in remote desktop thing, if I can't get right with that I will try ultravnc. I need something that will give me full control of the laptop over the network without any issues and is retard proof.

Would a Linux be better for a download laptop? If so which one? Preferably a user friendly one :D

What you have will work fine.
Just enable remote desktop on the laptop (and make a note of the name you use).
start and type in mstsc
either use the ip of the laptop or the laptop name as the machine to connect to.
When it asks for a username use the laptops network name\the username you gave permission to and you will be set.
(you can obviously play around with the settings, colors, sound etc).

Cool thanks!

So I am currently using the built in Windows Remote desktop and I have a few things I don't like about it.

Firstly I can not access files from other Pc's over the network from the laptop while using Remote Desktop.

Secondly I can not tell the laptop to switch off/sleep/hibernate ect.

Any other programs I can try? I gave UltraVNC a quick try and I have no idea what I'm doing with it, got lost quickly :D

I think I will give Teamviewer a try.

Since the Laptop will be used on the net, I suggest just installing Logmein free. It does everything and more you need :)
