Hi Hugo and rest of the Noise team.

There is clearly an issue with RDC'ing on Neotel.

Jeanres and myself have been testing this.

he is using a @dynalias.org address and I am using a @zapto.org address.

He can ping me and it works.
I can ping him and it works.

I try to RDC to him, it asks for username/password (so it works).
He tries to RDC to me, it asks for username and password.

I've asked someone who is on ADSL to try and ping / connect to both setups, and he can't, he has tried multiple other ways to connect to our PC's and it fails.

I asked for a possible 'reason' and he says:

routing issues, their network segment that they own allow inter traffic so to speak, or is routed .. but everthing outside of this seems to be a problem, very wierd for an isp .. but ya, its possible i guess, or something along those lines i guess

I didn't really expect him to have an answer, but I do expect a answer from Neotel and soon!

I'm also going to e-mail this to you guys (thread URL) and would expect that we get a answer ASAP.

I'm actually just FRACKING pissed off because I wasted 2 days of my leave trying to get this working and I tried everything / Googled my ass off... only to have the problem sit actually WITH NEOTEL (as per bloody usual!)

Bit of extra information for you Neotel guys;

I'm on the Prime Uncapped device... Jeanres is using the Flex device.

Jeanres can turn certain stuff off or on to MAYBE make it work, I however do not have that luxury.

I think you may have a different problem

When I still had Neotel I managed to get connections to work from 3G as well as from Iburst. Although it was'nt RDC as such it was VNC,SSH as well as VMWARE connections.

I was on Netflex at the time working through a linux based firewall with NAT'ing and IP forwarding configured.

Then again this was over 2months back , so maybe something has changed since then.

I have tried to use VNC, also didn't work, then again, I was trying from my work PC which is ADSL.

The way I set it up, it should work, and jeanres proved it.

So it's def something from Neotel.

One of the guys at work had problems with his Flex device (port 80 and port 22) and it turned out that Neotel had blocked all ports on a bunch of users devices without notification.

From what he understood from a techie was that they group the users in two groups: Open ports; closed ports.

You need to be moved over to the "open" port group of users. Have fun as where talking about communicating with their call center.

Its not closed ports I dont think, the ports may be closed from outside neotel's network, sure it can be solved quite quickly.

I use RealVNC Server and Viewer on my Lite and can vnc into my home connection from anywhere even from an adsl line just fine. Unfortunately have had to go this route as I could never get RD to work.

Gdiza

Did forward your open ports request, i hope they action ASAP.

Hugo

Thanks Hugo for the reply (via e-mail) regarding this.

I now have confirmation of my ports being opened "hopefully" and will try this tonight and report back...

@Neotel still cant ping my router from external

I'm guessing the 'program' (No-IP DUC) is not running (So it's not updating when my line disconnects / reconnects) on my PC or my line is 'dead' and it is not redialing (typically happens)

One or the other... I'll check tonight and we can test a bit more...

jeanres , to double check login to dyndns and check which ip they have on their system. That will tell you if teh router is working or not
