Howsit guys,

I'm stuck!

I need to remote desktop from a remote site into my LAN, specifically to a Laptop.

Now i've got dyndns setup and works great as I can remote desktop into 4 out of 5 pc's here. The one that i can't is this freekin laptop!

i've changed the IP in the router just like i do to get into the other 4 pc's so I know i'm pointing to the right pc.

I've disabled firewalls, checked all the basic remote settings and network settings to my desktop without any difference.

The strange thing is within my LAN, i can remote into it no problem (using the IP not dyndns address)

What else could the problem be? I thought it could be WIFI but same goes when its cabled.

ARG!

Laptop firewall disabled?

Remote Desktop enabled?

Check that you can RD into your laptop from one of the PC's on the LAN.

Laptop firewall disabled? yes

Remote Desktop enabled? yes

its confusing me!

trace route to your laptp from outside?

don't know how to do this?

Why don't you just use Logmein for the remote access? The logmein Free?

as for this, the remote PC is well.. currently remote so I can't install anything on it yet, but remote desktop is enabled on it.

I have radmin, but this would have the same problem as above?

thanks for the quick replies

ok, i've got one thing to try -

I used the Laptop to test from 3G into my LAN via dyndns, perhaps the router remembered that the laptop came from the outside of the LAN so when I try look for it from the outside in, the router won't let me in as it thinks the laptop is outside the LAN?

then again I can RD from within the LAN to this specific laptop via the router, and the IP's would've changed?

I'll give it a good reboot once the users have left and try again?

I assume you have your port forwarding working... i.e. router is forwarding the correct port and the PC is listening on that port... and you client is talking on that port...

Place the laptop into the DMZ of your router (if it gives you this option) then try to remote into the laptop or better try to telnet into the remote desktop port on the laptop.

ok, still nothing

have a look at the following screenshots -

I can't see what i'm doing wrong? The way i can test it is to point the router to a different pc on the LAN, then there are no issues. When i change to the laptop IP - nothing. If i put the laptop into this LAN, hey presto it works? obviously RD'ing into the IP not dyndns account.

While doing this, laptop is pinging the router.

As for the firewall on the laptop... have you checked the scope? Are you accepting RDP connections from the internet, or the LAN only?? I assume you are using windoze firewall....
*edit* hmmm... I see even without firewall...
Have you tried any other services on that machine... like iis or anything else? Try that first and eliminate a NIC level issue.

I fear this is out of my league:) I can try using radmin now as I can use my desktop with 3g to remote into the LAN.

Is there anyway to test that there is comms to the laptop via dyndns? perhaps something simple using another port? let me try radmin to see if there are any comms, i'll try setup logmein - but both these options won't help as the pc i want to see the laptop is some way away,

2) for a temp measure is there anyway i can get the user to RD into a different account on my pc leaving me to carry on? i tried however it keeps on logging me out?

thanks

AFAIK only possible with Terminal Services on 2003 server.

Didn't read the whole thread....But:
1.) You said you can remote desktop to other PCs in the network from outside.
2.) You can remote desktop to your laptop from those PCs within the network.

So... put one and two together...remote desktop to one of the other PCs, then from there to your laptop? :)
