remote desktop issues! wtf

XP home or PRO ?!?!?!?

all pc's have XP pro

Have you enabled sharing on the laptop?

it should be as i can access folders and files over the LAN

So... put one and two together...remote desktop to one of the other PCs, then from there to your laptop?

this i'm sure would work however I don't have a spare PC on my network, if i did they could just remote into mine?

I tried Logmein, it works fine, just not that clear for the user - even in full screen mode. It will get used for pastel so reports and small print will need to be read. It is also a little complicated for the user to use.

I will be trying radmin as soon as i can find where i put it,

thanks!

Ok, here are some findings after spending ages on Google :

1) I've tried Radmin, VNC none work with this laptop. However they do with any other pc on the network.
2) One way thats works but is pretty nasty, is to VNC into a spare PC, from that PC VNC into the Laptop. but like i say its nasty!

I've used http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and the minute i point the router to the laptop IP, it says the port cannot be found. when i change it to point to another pc, no problems. it finds 3389.

I've checked using netstats - a and the port is listening, I also checked in terminal services and the service has been started.

I even un-installed the mcaffee firewall as I read there can sometimes be issues there. As far as I can see, the Laptop and my desktop are setup the same?

help! arg!

Reinstall the nic driver (get the latest version), uninstall and reinstall all third party firewalls! Sounds like a nic level issue to me. ALSO... sometimes people fiddle with services and disable them - check your services in control panel (particularly those that are disabled and those that are set to automatic starup but have not started) and compare to another machine.
Any clues in your logs under control panel - admin tools? ps. clear it first then reboot then check when started up so you don't have too much to sift through.

Thanks but still no luck - I tried reinstalling the NIC drivers (latest), I have uninstalled firewalls altogether and disabled the window one.

I had a look at the services list and compared them with a working pc with no major differences. tried enabling and disabling a few options with no luck.

Sorry I don't know how to check the logs? any pointers?

I may be getting another PC for the simple task of RD'ing into from there RD'ing into the laptop. But its not first prize,

thanks

Sounds like there is definitely something on the laptop that is blocking the ports from non-lan IPs.
