Remote desktop not working over VDSL

Yes, it is 1492 and it seems I can't change it. What should it be?

That's fine if it's on default, was just wondering if it was changed at some point. Might be able to change it if you disconnect the PPPoE connection but seeing it's on default no need to change unless you want to make it lower and test but probably not that
Edit: TP-Link default is 1480

Managed to change it on the router, had to set the TCP MSS Option to MTU-40 but no luck at MTU 1480 or 1454.

So reading up on this and going through a few RFC's I see that the issue is mostly related to a badly configured firewall through which you are trying to create the VPN. Maybe you should get your IT guys involved to check that their firewall settings are able to handle higher data rate connections?

It all started after getting my Asus router. I want to get a cheap VDSL router and see if it makes any difference. It's pretty annoying.

Ordered a cheapie ZTE VDSL router from Takealot today, will see if that changes anything. Seems to get good reviews.

Very strange, I take it "VPN pass through" is enabled on that Asus router? Suppose it must be enabled or else the VPN would probably not connect in the first place

Works flawlessly on a cheapie ZTE ZXHN H168N V2.1.0T4

Very tempted to ditch the Asus and stick with the ZTE. Can't believe my fancy pants Asoos is beaten by a tiny router costing a 3rd of the price. Sucks to not have Gbe and no 802.11AC but so be it.

I would find it impossible to resist the puzzle. I would keep working on the issue until I find out what the issue is.

At least compare in detail the configuration of both routers.

I did log the issue with Asus, but the settings are exactly the same, MTU was the first thing I checked. Asus need to fix the firmware.

Bit of necro and a bit of a OT but just discovered Chrome remote desktop today!

I been using Teamviewer for the best part of 7 years now but seems my account has been flagged for commercial use. I'm using the free version. No remote software comes close but @ R8k a year it's a little expensive for me so I was looking at alternatives and they all sub par.

Ran into Chrome remote desktop and thought for a laugh let me setup it up and give it a bash.

Now functionality is rather limited and it only supports 1 concurrent connection afaik but for light usage it absolutely rocks!! I'm streaming camera surveillance via the remote interface and the feed is surprisingly good. Fast and responsive. Very impressed and free!!

Glad you found a working solution. Because I only use Windows nothing comes close to Remote Desktop and the way it handle the video output. Recently my work decided to use FortiClient (or as I like to call it FaultiClient) and I just stopped using VPN altogether. When using Microsoft products the best tools for the job often comes from them.

Anyways, glad you could sort it out.

I'll definitely give Windows built in Remote software a bash.

Amazed at how well Chrome is working though. Check how it out performs a Splashtop business account.

Chrome vs the king of remote software Teamviewer... Chrome on the left...

So the VPN connection is set to 1400, not sure if that is good or bad?

you need to update to Windows ten build 17134 or 16299
