What is the best Remote Desktop application for supporting +/- 200-300 users.
Needs to have an easy installer or an unattended installer.

Any ideas welcome :).

WE use Teamviewer and Ultravnc FREE

But the best paid support software for us was RADMIN all the way.

Dameware - install and configure remotely over LAN
Teamviewer - internet based
Logmein Rescue - internet based

We also use Teamviewer.
Have used Radmin in the past.

Don't know about Radmin now adays but Teamviewer let's you see which computers is online or not.

Are you looking at supporting users on the same LAN or over the internet?

It will mostly be on the same LAN. Internet support is not really needed.

What I don't see at Radmin is:

- See if the computers is online or offline
- Restart in Safe Mode

Teamviewer could also be cheaper.

Radmin is from 200+ PCs - $22 per remote PC

And Teamviewer is R 17,349 for 3 simultaneous sessions.

How many people would be logging into the clients computers?

2 people (Both the support guys here)

At a financial firm we had 5000 people to remotely support software over dialup:sick: used Bomgar
Luckily that is over?!

Then TV would be cheaper than Radmin.
Lets say:
250 computers * $22 = $5500.
Teamviewer is R17400 for 3 support guys.

I also see that TV 7 was released late last year and Radmin 3.4 late 2009.

Only thing that bothers me about TV is that if TV 8 comes out, you need to buy an upgrade licence.
We use TV and we are quite happy.

We tried the Server and client edition shows you everyone connected over the Lan that is.
Was much faster than vnc or teamviewer especially over vpn - but pricey!

I use RealVNC and TightVNC. Both are easy to install and both can be installed and configured with a .bat file.

Both are free.

And is it easy to manage a few hundred clients? As in if John Doe calls me will i be able to connect to him without knowing his IP address of without knowing his PC name off hand?

Yes you can, use the MSI installer for domains.

You can save an VNC shortcut and rename it to the users name.
The problem is that IP's do change...

Got an app running on the desktops displaying PC name and IP for such cases ^

You'd need to know the name or IP. With mRemoteNG you can save/add VNC connections under folders. Like for instance, I have Branches>Durban>XXX Road>Servers>Server1, Server2 etc. I also have one for users eg >XXX Road>Users>LAB>User1, User2 etc.

It's takes a bit of time to setup but once it's been done you're all set. And you can backup your config. mRemoteNG can also take RDP connections. Its the one piece of software I use every single day.

GBRIDGE FTW...

you register a fake gmail addy, hook up the pcs via this e-mail addy, you can connect from home/work behind a firewall.

You can check which pcs are online... etc

Only thing is, you can't do a mass roll out... i think....havent had to. :P

OH AND ITS FREE :P

Guess i should also mention that most of the computers do not have internet access.
This is proving to be a problem with Team Viewer as its constantly complaining about not having internet access :-/.
