Hi guys,

I am going on holiday soon as I was hoping someone could help me. I have a pc at home that I want to be able to remote desktop to(running XP Pro). The laptop I am taking on holiday has windows xp home. Is there a easy to use program I can use to remote to my pc at home from any other place in SA, thats not difficult to setup? When I connect to the pc at home I just need to check if there are still a couple of things running.

Thanks very much and have a wonderfull festive season and be safe.

Problem you might encounter would be the PC ''going to sleep''

All the ones I've tried won't work then.

Would I be able to connect to the home pc without anyone having to grant me "permission" or "access"?
Yes, all you need is an internet connection and a running pc. You can use either a predefined password or a Teamviewer generated password at each log in. Obviously you would use the predefined one...

Download and install the program on your desktop and laptop and test it. It's free, easy to configure and most importantly works brilliantly!!!

Oh and if you have an iPhone there is a Teamviewer app for that too...

Yes. Teamviewer has an install to tray mode so it's always running. You can set a predefined password and connect whenever you like. Very easy to install, no port forwarding needed!

Will teamviewer work if the pc at home is connected to the router via WLAN?

Or port forward and just use Remote Desktop ;). If you have the cash you can use LogMeIn.
You misunderstood me I think. I *am* using Remote Desktop. I used teamviewer to set up MS Remote Desktop on the other PC, found MS Remote Desktop to work better than Teamviewer & thanked gary for highlighting the better solution.

Yes. TeamViewer uses a setup similar to stun servers so as long as the WLAN PC has internet access it'll go through.

Yea, I misunderstood it because I saw the use of Remote Assistance in what Gary posted and didn't visit the link which pointed to Remote Desktop and not the former.

I got it to work, thanks for all the help and suggestions guys

well im kinda noob with this remote desktop stuff, but this weekend i finally figured out how to do connection between home and work to view the cctv cams. Im using vnc cuz its the best. i dont know how to set up the port in windows remote desktop yet though...??

You can also try using Hamachi - https://secure.logmein.com.
It sets up a VPN between the 2 PC, and the speed is pretty decent. I've got that running together with TeamViewer, so if one is slow i can usually just use the other one :P

"LogMeIn Hamachi² is a hosted VPN service that securely connects devices and networks, extending LAN-like network connectivity to mobile users, distributed teams and business applications. You can easily create secure virtual networks on demand, across public and private networks."
