Remote???

Hi guys...

hope that someone could help me im looking for a way to control my pc remotly ie, like one would control thier hc pc in lounge, anything like that around any suggestions will help...

Microsoft MCE Remote

I have one and control all my media with it, works with iTunes and WMP out the box and you don't need to install any software to use it.

correct,
but also note, the remote drivers were only included with sp2 and above, and only for xp pro...for xphome you have to borrow them off a pro machine or off a proper mce machine.

i.e. xp mce, xp pro sp2, just plug it in and it'll work.
xp home, need to fiddle a bit but totally do-able.

with vista, you should be good to go in all OS's.
 
Oh ... don't you need to have MCE to use it? Those bastard liar suppliers of mine.
 
Logitech Harmony also an option... have only heard good things about them.
 
+1 for MCE remote, I use it with mediaportal on xp sp2, theres also replacement drivers around, plus translation software if it doesn't work with the app you're using.

I bought a Harmony H688 about 2 weeks back.. :)

Very impressive device, easy to setup and all.. Thing I like the most about it is the back lit keypad! :D I can't think why back lit keypads are not more common in remote controls? It can't be that expensive to implement..

Anyway to use it with a PC you'd still need a receiver of sorts for the PC..
 
The MCE remote is also back lit, Philips makes an MCE remote too but don't know if that one's back lit.

with the mce remotes, the light come on when you push a button, and others are luminous. philips is the ODM for the common remote that you will see in most of the pictures.

the harmony range is movement sensitive, so when you PICK THEM UP the lights come on.
pretty impressive, and makes more sense to have it that way

can one control a pc via a harmony remote??? how would that work??
 
You'd need some kind of reciever on your PC, and it would probably be limited more to controlling multi-media applications. But what more do you want? ;)
