Hi Everyone.

I have to make a whole lot of dvd's but i need to remove a stupid background noise that got recorded with the recording anyone got an idea of what to use to remove the background noise?

Its a irritating noise as it distracts your attention from what the person is saying.

Can work on Pc or Mac if that will help any?

Edit: oh and Audacity doesn't work... It makes the voice sound like he's talking in a tin.

You're gonna need a better program to do it.

Soundtrack Pro for Mac allows you to select the background noise by itself, ie get the noise signature of the file and then one of two filters is able to remove that noise from your audio. You can change the threshold and achieve a balance between too little and too much noise removal.
It works really well.

Adobe Audition for Mac or the PC is also able to achieve great results
in this field. I've used this method too before and it works well too.

Cakewalk pro is another application which is able to achieve this.

You may have to buy or pirate an app to do what you want to do.
Audacity may just not have good enough filters to achieve what you want to do.

Adobe audition did the same thing to my audio it works fine for music but just a voice makes it sound like it were a robot speaking...

And i couldn't find noise removal in Soundtrack pro but will look again...

Noise is additive and very difficult to isolate from the signal (speech etc). If it is repetitive like a constant clicking or specific frequency which can be isolated, when no speech occurrs, it may then be subtracted from the soundtrack.

Oh, unsure of the application, but I thought the background info helps to understand the beast you're dealing with here.

I've found Soundtrack Pro to be quite good at removing noise, especially the low tone,
static variety. You can select how much you want to remove and a real time preview allows you to remove just enough before it starts impacting the speech. I'm no expert in the field by any measure but for me it has worked well from a subjective POV. :)
