Renault Clio 0.9T Tuning

It is not so much the engine handling the added power, or in this case extra boost.

The main thing that I have noticed when tuning these tiny motors is heat. They already run hot. Adding more boost will make them run hotter, and the excess heat will cause massive problems with heat soak and cooling boost on its way up the intake tract.

Note: I have build a 998 turbo Mini. The motor was fine as I was using an intercooled set up and water injection.
The motor still ran at 110 degrees on the Highway cruising in 4th.

Please don't tune a 900cc engine. Ever. They're already going to struggle to get to 100000k without something breaking.

But wouldn't it be educational if one of us had personal experience on why it's not a good idea to tune a 900cc engine?

Yip that engine will run even hotter and probably pop before 50k km..
I wouldn't risk it, just get a faster car.

It's french so that will probably happen anyway, might as well enjoy it till it gets there. Didn't you see in the first post they have frenchie support groups......runs....

My tuner, Armand, has tuned one of these for a client. He is based in Centurion so if you want his number feel free to send me a PM.
The guy who got his car tuned says he can now do 0-100 in 10sec flat. 2 seconds faster than the stock setup.

How much more torque was he able to squeeze out of it? because on such a small car anything over 150Nm would make you the king of all small hatches. If I could have a small car tuned it would just be to aid with more oomph for overtaking and maintaining a decent speed on inclines, 0 to 100 seems kinda pointless.

Quite a few of these got over 100k

I personally still wouldn't tune it.

So i have a 2017 renault clio 0.9 and after some time feel like i want a little more out of it, so I have done some research and found some tuners that will be able to give me an extra 15Kw or so.
Save your money, work harder and buy a car with a bigger engine.

I mean really, some people.

The dyno we use is busy getting upgraded, so at the moment we don't know how much he makes.

When it comes to tuning there are always risks. Its about finding a tuner who knows that engine well enough to give you safe power.
My tuner for example is an expert with the Alfa Romeo 1750 Turbo motors. The stock wheel kw on my Giulietta is about 150kw, but after all the work that has been done (full exhaust, hybrid turbo, and tune) she gets 250kw and 500nm on the front wheels.

Thanks, I do try my best.

Anyone who wants to make a 900cc turbo car produce more kilowatts and use it as a daily driver is looking up the wrong end of the thing.

That's cool, but the work hard blah blah ain't it.
