Good day everyone

I am thinking of buying a 2016 Renault Clio 900T Dynamique with a sunroof. However I would like to find out if they still have bad resale value? I would not want to make a bad investment.

From what I can see they are in the same class as the others (Opel Corsa, Ford Fiesta, etc) when I look at second hand value on Autotrader, I would just like some advice from someone who knows a lot more about it than me.

Thanks in advance

They are quite popular but not as much as the Polo, so resale value will be decent.

Great. Thanks. And what's the power like in that car? I drive a Opel Corsa 1.0T and I don't want to downgrade performance wise

At 66kw and 0-100km/h at a lzay 12.2 seconds, it will probably only beat a Picanto or Atos.

In comparison, your 1.0T Corsa has 85kw.

A car has never been a good investment, except in cases where it's a exotic car of sorts. I think Renault has finally shaken the bad reputation off and since they are popular cars the resale value won't be bad.

Thanks everyone. I really liked the idea of a sunroof, but it looks as if I should rather go for something else.

The Corsa is overall a better car than the Clio. I'd rather look at a newer Corsa or Fiesta. Both have a lot more power than the Clio.

1. It's not a Sunroof, it's literally a fixed glass roof, it does not open.

2. Resale us decent as they are popular, but that glass roof spec is more rare and would probably bring a little more in terms of Resale, but regardless you wo t get Polo level Resale.

3. I have a 2016 Dynamique and love it, but the performance especially at lower revs is not as good as the Corsa or Fiesta, remember the Clio is not a 1.0, it's literally a 898cc engine, it's smaller than those competitors.

4. Maybe look at the 2017 & 2018 Clio 4 GT Line, comes with a lot more power in a 1.2T engine comparable to the Fiesta and Corsa.

Renault have great deals for these at brand new, go to your local Renault dealer and negotiate.

The higher price of the Clio GT line for similar performance to a Fiesta or Corsa, makes no sense.

I'd still get a Fiesta or Corsa. Better value and performance overall.

I must say though, when you get into the Fiesta the interior is not as nice, and the whole package just isn't as fulfilling for me, unless you go for the top line Fiesta Titanium package.

Id say maybe the Corsa and Mazda2 maybe better value. This actually a really fun car segment, and one needs to look at the full package and see if it suits them as each car gives a little something the others dont, be it looks/design, features & creature comforts, performance and drivability

E.g. I used a Fiesta 1.0T Ambiente as a hired car when my Clio 4 went for repair, I loved the immediate feeling of power in the Fiesta, but hated it's interior and infotainment system, it also felt less sporty and less grounded when taking bends in spirited driving.

Cannot wait until I can afford to get the real performance versions of these cars, because I'll be test driving for a good few weeks/months, they are all so good.

OP, get out there and test drive!

- Fiesta
- Corsa
- Mazda2
- Clio 4 GT Line
- Hyundai i20
- Kia Rio
- Polo TSI
- New Toyota Yaris

Etc etc etc....

You may be surprised at which you end up picking. The Mazda2 has take many of us by surprise for example, such a great car.

I Agree. I have a limited budget, so I just saw the deal on the Clio and thought I might as well ask for opinions from people who owns or has owned one. I really like the automatic Mazda 2, especially the interior. Every car has it's own advantage and this makes it difficult to choose one, for example I also liked the full LED light and cruise control in the Clio because I drive far a lot of the time.

So I guess my choice will be between a newer Opel Corsa or a Mazda 2 (preferably automatic).

I really appreciate everyone's input, as it helps hearing opinions from a lot of different drivers.

I am glad you have not overlooked the Mazda. :D

All the best, have fun with this. Having a limited budget is all the more better, Haha, makes this that much more interesting.

I had to do this exercise twice, first in 2016 and then 2017 (as I wrote-off the Clio 4 I bought in 2016), both times I bought the same car, with same spec lol!

Also loo into running costs, e.g. how long the Service Plans are, Warranty periods, how much Brakes may cost to replace, any common faults etc...

I can tell you now, the Clio 4s chow their front Brakes due to their softer compound that they use, but you can get them cheap at Goldwagen (around R500-600 a set).

Reviewers seem to disagree - The Fiesta is the far more fun and sportier one of the two, but the Clio is a great everyday car overall.

On identical tyres, there’s more front-end grip in the Fiesta than the Clio, which noses wide if you bung it in a tight corner where the Ford clings on. It’s those little things that make the Ford feel tauter, more muscular - hell, faster - than the Renault. In the real world, there are probably more important things. In every proper, grown-up regard, the Clio - with its hectares of legroom front and back, its fresh, airy interior - is a huge step forward for Renault, a leap right at the very top of the city car class

What price are you paying?

Good choices. The Clio 900T is a downgrade from what you have now.
