My Renault Megane is currently in for a service and they just phoned me quoting me R790 on a new battery and another R600 for the labor of resetting the car's computer.

Have anyone replaced a battery themselves in a Renault without problems?
R600 to reset the computer as it is already in for a service today is absurd!

Battery Center replaced my battery, I drive a Clio II 2002 model.
I just had to put in my radio code afterwards, sounds like a bullsh*t story to me.

When mine was in for a service they quoted me all sorts of arb things.

HEll NO!

resetting the comp should be anything from 200-250...Anyone with these sorts of equipement should be able to do it.

Tell them you'll bring your own batery, and don't let them hit you with that they have special Renault bateries that works on renault only crap!

phone around and get prices for batery...but the reset is rediculous, its literaly a comp plug into your ports and a button gets pressed by some dirty finger and all electronics and memory is reset!

Servicing your car on your own will be like R300, this will be changing oil, spark plugs etc. A battery will be no more than R600 when swopping the old one in.

Just a question, what do they mean by resetting the computer? The normal way to reset the ECU is to unhook the battery for about 30 minutes... Unless they need to reprogram stuff, but then the question is still why?

Unhooking the batery resets the ECU ja...

but when you do a reset I think they change all the perameters to the way it was on factory etc...me don't knows but I've seen it done...or maybe they hit me one over the head...joh, good question!
