I have had a IBM 5395 8x12V 3KVA UPS sitting in the garage for a while that I want to get rid of. I've checked the batteries and they are holding 12V, but the UPS says no battery pack when the battery pack is installed, and it does not charge it. When the mains are disconnected, is runs for a few second showing a standby time, then suddenly turns off.
Not sure what the issue with it is

I emailed Uptech and Powermode for an idea of cost, given that the UPS weighs more than I do, and in what seems like a South African tradition, neither company got back to me.
Any recommendations for somewhere to have a UPS assessed and repaired?

You need to assess a battery pack. This UPS has a sophisticated 3-phase charger. It will detect condition when batteries do not take a current. Fresh batteries will accept charging current immediately, but batteries that were not used for a while need to break oxidation barrier first.

Remove individual batteries and connect to the battery reconditioner (automatic charger/discharger). If any battery fail, then you have to replace all batteries in the battery pack.

Thanks all sajunky I will test each individually - why would all the batteries need to be replaced if one is bad?

Unless there are separate sections with independent charging circuit, you have to replace all batteries. One weak battery will undercharge or overcharge (depends on the configuration) all other batteries in the pack.
