Replacement Car Advice

Hi, I drive a 2008 335i which I bought a year and a half ago. Life has thrown us a curve and at age 37 I became a dad again.:D

Problem is the 335i is not a baby carrier and I was looking at a bigger car.

My options are a 5 series 530i, Audi A6 3.0T or the new E Class Merc E350.

Can anyone give any advice on the above vehicles. It does not have to be an out and out sprinter but i would still like to occasionally thrash some GTI and upset the wife.;)

Tx

Congrats on becoming a dad again :)
I can't believe this post LOL! I have a 320D which I would like to upgrade to a 335i next year. I say next year because I just want that 2010 model car... :D
But... I'm your age and would love another child before I turn the big 'ol 40, so I'm going to also have to rethink that 335i. Just like you, I also love the power on hand to.. like you put it "occasionally thrash some GTI"... so what will it be??
Anyway, with your situation and money obviously not a problem, can I throw a curveball and suggest a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8? I know nothing about it other than the claimed 0 -100 spint in under 5 secs :D Out of my league, but what a machine

Excuse me whilst I am ill!!

Apart from anything else, you need a petrol bowser parked next to your garage. It still amazes me that people actually buy dinosaur cars (?) like that!!

You can pick up a slightly used S6 for almost half the new price. Basically a V10 Lambo in a comfortable Audi body.

When it comes to buying cars, I don't ask for advice anymore. I don't research and I don't compare figures. Just go to the dealership, get in the damn driver's seat and drive it. You will know in a few minutes which car is for you. Stranger speculation will never help.

I have done the Jeep thing in the past, never again, 5 months two sets of brakes and a auto gearbox. Traded it in and took a 75k knock.... The 335i is a blast, have had my fun with the GTI's as it is in Elegance spec so looks like a 320i, u know the ones that all have the 18" rims. problem is that 3 series BMw's have never been spacious inside and the boot is a joke. I will most likely go with the A6 but my wife dont like it aas she says it looks too much like her Q5. ( I dont see it.)

LOL! As I said, I don't know the Jeep and take heed from the warnings above about being a petrol guzzler. Just can't get over the fact that it goes that quickly, but yeah so does the petrol :D

I'll most probably have to go with the 335i next year as I love my 320D but also need a bit more vooma!
Take care and hope your new kid keeps you younger for a long while still ;)

I would love to buy this as I ended up with 335i after going in for 330d test drive. Its I can get one 2007 model with less than 20k kms on the clock for about 100k cheaper than the A6 I dont want to test drive it as I would most likely buy it without thinking of the longer term experience. Thank you for your sentiment as it is how I usually think too but if the wife refuses to get in it and wont allow the kids into the Audi/Lambo it wont serve much purpose as a family car would it?:D

Just ask Audi to debadge the car, and tell the wife it is a 1.6?

Hi thanks for the reply, I will check the links though we dont get the the 535i here. I was considering the Jag but as I usually finance over 36 months I would not be happy with the value after 3 years. As for Lexus, I know that technically they not the same brand but my Toyota Experience has been less than satisfactory in fact I promised myself I would never buy one again. At the moment I am keen on the Audi. I think I would seem a bit of a dick chasing GTI's in an E Class. On the other hand I have been offered a real good deal on a 5 series but its a bit on the ugly side.

To the guy that thanked me for considering German vehicles, whats up with that dude? Is it that bad out there? ;-)

Probably 'that dude' is German, involved in a branch closely related to one of the vehicles you intend to purchase and just happened to read this forum :D Whatever you decide, stear clear of Japanese originating motorcars. If you really want my opinion - Get the Audi :D

Funny u should say that, besides my old Toyota, I have had a few Hondas and they are far more reliable than the Audis's, Volvos and this BMW that I have.

To the German guy, lots of German cars here in SA. U can still get a brand new Golf 1 if u want. I amuse myself watching older German tourists stare at them in disbelief.:D

Toyota and Honda may be "the right way to go", but I really dio not like dying of boredom every time I get into my car...............;)

So you wouldn't want an NSX? :p

LOL...I'd be perfectly happy with a Polo actually!! ;)

I find it incredibly difficult to get excited about ANY Honda...my sister had a couple of CRX's and they really were great cars...just managed to slow my heart rate every time I drove them....:D

Jeez, why can't you fit a baby in a 335i? Here I'm thinking my little Opel hatchback is quite spacious for four adults.

Because I have two little kids, involves two prams as the older one wont accept one of the tandem ones, and the accessories that go with a baby, ie bags etc are a pain too. Lets be quite clear the 335i is great for 4 and a half adults but not for wife and kids and my sanity.

Get a RS4 Avant, loads of pram space, lots of power, super sexy interior, looks hot, your wife will want it, your kids will love you...:p
