Hi guys,
My folks desktop's mobo seemed to have died this morning. The board had a few over current errors on start up last week.It powers up and the mobo light responds, cpu and gpu fans power up but there is no display on the monitor.

I tested my laptop display on the monitor and it works fine. So it is either a case of the mobo or Gpu. The motherboard is not making any sounds though. No start up beeps or any other beeps? Is it more than likely the mobo.I don't have any spare pc's to test the PCI express gpu :erm:

If so I need some assistance on purchasing a new one. The current one is an Asus M2V range mboard.
I took it into a local pc shop here and the guys are trying to pull a quick one saying we must rather replace the entire system. REALLY? The pc has 2 gigs of working ddr II ram and the cpu is an AMD4400 (socket AM2).
The gpu is a PCI Express 512 mb card. So these dudes just rate we need an entire new system?!!! :wtf:

My question is this. Surely there are still mobo's around for purchase that support the cpu and ram mentioned above?
It is not a gaming rig so if we could find a board that has onboard graphics, that would be convenient.

I have searched online and there are a few places who seem to stock them. I would just like to get some more assistance here please. Were the dudes at the pc shop talking truth that I won't be able to find a mobo for the cpu and ram :( Do I really have to tell my folks to blast a few grand on a new rig. Things are tough as is.

Any help appreciated.

Not impossible that it's your psu.
If you can, test it with a psu swapout.

Regarding your motherboard. The AM2 socket motherboards is becoming exceedingly rare.

You said you found one but if you run into a brick wall to get an AM2 mobo and your folks only use their pc for email, surfing and such you could look at something like the Foxconn D42S motherboard with an integrated dual core atom processor for an economical option. Your DDR2 memory will also work in that. It cost under R800
It is mini itx though so there might be case compatibility issues.
The product code is FXD42S if you want to google it.

Second option is Intel Celeron G440 Sandy Bridge LGA1155 processor with something like a ECS H61H2-M2 motherboard and 2Gb Kingmax DDR3 memory. All in all below R1000.

Third option is an AMD Sempron 2.7Ghz and ECS MCP61M-M3 motherboard and 2Gb Ram. This option might go below R900

+1 Try this first.

I've had plenty of cases where everything powers up, fans, lights etc but there is no image on the display and no POST beep sound. All of them were PSU related.

thanks for the assistance guys

@RB computers - thanks bro for the details feedback. I found the mboard on this site alone.

I am very interested in the mini itx option and the other options you mentioned.can you provide me with some links or sites where I can possibly place an order in?

@Ponder - The PSU is relatively new and was replaced a year ago due to the old one failing? I would be so dissapointed if it was a psu problem.

abit more history about the issue though - a week ago the usb over current message on start up was not allowing the pc to boot.so after some googling the most common resolution was loosening the screws off the motherboard because a short was occurring. It worked first time! No errors for a week. The case have is also manglged and stuff at the back so I am pretty sure a short or charge may have blow the mobo. I would be so depro if it was a PSU issue.
