They are also used to monitor catalytic converter efficiency or more importantly lack of efficiency such as when they are clogged or need a burn/regen cycle.

Also, I checked my major service breakdown and they charged R2k for 4 spark plugs (labour was charged as a separate line item). Daylight robbery. Guess I should have paid closer attention. Live and learn.

I replaced the 4 o2 sensors on a Volvo once, was a pain in the ass as I had to drop the exhaust and getting to the sensors was difficult. But that quote is stupid ofc.

Anyway, as others have said rather find someone who can decat and fake the sensors.

Thanks guys. This is exactly what I did. Did a stage 1 conversion and am very happy with the result. She is running so quietly once again, and feels almost new. Now I just tap her accelerator and she wants to run. Think I am going to hang onto her for a while still. Hubs wanted to me to upgrade to a Tiguan or T-Roc, but I think he should get the upgrade.
