So, here's the deal:

I need to replace two phones: Nokia 6680 and 9300. Take into account that I've had it with Nokia Smartphones, and the 9300's functionality is an overkill, what should I look at ito Nokias and other brands?

Is there anything worth waiting for that is coming out in the next couple of months, otherwise I am buying today

Thanks

if you are just looking for a phone to phone, SMS, mms, play some java games, sync with outlook (via IR, no BT), and take the occasional photo, go for the 6610i. This is a wonderful phone.

My Samsung broke before I was due for an upgrade and i bought this phone. at the time it was best value for money. I’m due for an upgrade now and am actually not upgrading because I’m so happy with the phone.

EDIT: it also has a FM radio built in (but you need to connect the headset for it to work - antenna)

Thanks for the feedback. BT is a must, I guess I should have put that in my original post. Have a BT headset, carkit, etc, which still needs to work

Sony Ericsson w900i
Motorola v3x
Nokia n70

All 3G. I'm getting the n70 in the next few days, but the other two are also very nice. Software support is the best, good build quality / reputation and it's not to big.

i-Mate Jasjar
i-Mate K-Jam
i-Mate SP5
Nokia N90
Nokia N70

These are all nice phones.
Yeah, on paper they are all very nice, just like the 6680 and 9300. I wanna try and stay away from the Smartphones, although I really like the N90. Just want something that can connect to the web (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, doesn't matter) has bluetooth and can make phonecalls, thats basicallly it.

The Nokia 6230i has a good display, EDGE, should be pretty cheap, BT, memory-card if you really want to listen to music (radio as well), okayish camera and it won't crash on you. Also Nokia, so the software will be familiar to you!

Granted, it's not the newest and flashiest anymore, but its better than the 6610i.

My 2c.

My wife uses a 9300. Very nice phone, but it doesn't come close to my Jasjar. It's great for internet browsing. Has got build-in wifi, so when you are at a wifi hotspot you can connect with super fast browsing.

3G is good, but can hardly use it becuase of pathetic coverage by MTN:(

I like the 6230i ... had a look at it this morning. Will probably get it for my wife to replace the 9300.

I have to disagree ... the 9300 is a piece of crap ... it is way too slow for a phone of its potential. Leave 50 SMS messages on the MMC, and you are fcuked!

I am replacing the 9300 with the 6230i, now to decide on a phone for me to replace the 6680 ... hmm, me ponders

Has any1 seen the i-mate sp5 on contract in SA. I have been using the sp3 for almost 2 years and have been very happy - I assume the sp5 would be at least as good?

Some link to the Jasjar, etc would be appreciated ... not on qteksa.com?

Yeah, thats the two main reasons I am looking at it, plus the 27Mb memory excl the MMC

SE w800i ? Got myself one first time i have not had a nokia. No complaints at all

Recently got the parents to go for the 6230i (my mother can't use anything other than a Nokia - briefly tried a Samsung). My father had the iMate PDA2K, man, that was a disaster... :)

Both are quite happy now!

On the other hand, Samsung D500/D600 pretty good as well, while the SE's are also good (not too sure which model would be in the same range as the other phones mentioned here).

My site for mobile reviews: http://www.mobile-review.com/index-en.shtml

I myself use Nokia smartphones all they way, but some people just prefer a simple phone that doesn't require a restart a day!

EDIT: Edited for horrible spelling

Ok, 6680 is going back to Nokia today. Screw this, the thing is so buggered now it is not even funny (see my post in the Nokia 6680 thread).

Bought two 6230i's on Friday ... quite a nice little phone, except that the one has a Out of Box failure on the speaker. not too bad, will be replaced at least. not too sure whats going to happen with my 6680?
