Hi guys

Anyone have experience with the replacement of laptop fans? I have an Acer Aspire 5532 and it keeps on overheating and shutting down.

Could someone please give me some info on eg. how much it costs, how long it takes, how big of an hassle it is etc.

Thanks!

KK

I have an old Toshiba laptop with a fan problem, its fan makes a huge noise after a few minutes of starting. I opened it once and took it apart as much as I could, the design of it makes the mounting part of the overall structure of the laptop and I could see no way of removing it.. so I just live with the noise on those occasions I use it.

Can you hear the fan isn't working?
If it is working then its most likely just the heatsink that can get blocked up with dust.
Open & clean job

You have to take the entire Acer Aspire 5532 apart to get to the fan, it is mounted on the underside of the motherboard that is obscured by the bottom chassis that is not accessible via a backing plate. The ENTIRE laptop has to be dissembled to reach this fan.

Frustrating design.

After 4 years of use my Acer TM 5520 started getting noisy...stripped it, cleaned fan & re-assemble (about 50min altogether). Only major headache is the base plate has about 15 tiny screws, which have a habit of slipping through your fingers and falling - add 15min looking for dropped screws!
