Why would a phone need a rear glass
To make it easier to break and charge you when repairing it.

Honestly, I prefer a metal or textured back, they are easier to handle and a lot more rigid.

I sent my phone (Note 5 thats a year and half old) to Samsung for a screen issue and my menu button peeling. They sent pics to the head office for authorization, telling me it was unlikely they would fix under warranty. Last Wednesday I called to get an update and a tech told me they are replacing the screen, menu button and battery under warranty. I was surprised by that. Well done to Samsung

More on topic though, on the invoice the battery is R750, and a rework kit they claim is compulsory when changing the battery is R430. Both excl VAT. I think a budget of R1500 to change the battery incl labour. I still prefer the days of having a removable back cover and having 2 batteries

Ya, that's not reason enough. Plenty of no glass rear cover phones support wireless charging.

no real reason is money,

if the battery dies when you cant easily replace the battery, 90% of people will buy a new phone=profit
if google upgrades android, and you delay as long as is possible the official release on your device, you buy a new phone =profit

if your smart, you buy a phone with a removable battery, running a custom rom that receives updates regularly,
and you have one more thing to stick it to the man.....
