Hi Guys,

Just a quick query on how this works..
I'll be moving end of Sept'10 into a complex down the road.

Don't think the unit has a tel jack as yet.. I know the area/unit is ADSL enabled as a couple other people in the complex currently already have ADSL + I live 1 road away currently and have a 4mbps uncapped with mweb, although it's under housemates name (and he will keep the account for himself).

How do billings work if I go with the 512 option with MWEB.. do they charge me from the day I call them to say I want to join their "Mweb all inclusive" deal (where they charge line + data)..

Or does it only apply from the day my line is activated/installed (and they can see data going through)...

Let me know the best way to approach this, as I'm not gonna pay R599 for the first month if the line isn't active/I can't use it yet..

Secondly, are there installation costs that mweb/telkom charge to install/connect my line? (once off/etc.)

Got all my hardware/networking devices, so i don't need one of those telkom "get a 12 month contract and get a marconi router free" lol

:)

"from the day my line is activated..."

First you need to apply for a telephone line at the new place... once that is installed (up to a month wait, more if your flat does not have cable to the street phone terminal thingy), you can then apply for adsl once that is up and running.... either pay for adsl install with Telkom (quicker).... or go all inclusive with Mweb free install... but they take forever and might tell you there are no ports available in your area (since telkom only gives them so many...) and then you would have to go the telkom install route to get a port anyway if Mweb can't give you.

once Telkom lets Mweb or you know the line is up, you call Mweb and activate it. and the start billing you.

you however will be paying for the telephone line while you wait on adsl install...

and if you take closer option 2 package telephone install is free... If you take their option 4 or 5 telephoine and adsl install is free and at the same time, but telkom becomes your ISP.

hmmm, so what would the timeline be if i already got a line to my unit in the complex... but the telkom boys still gotta activate me on ADSL at the exchange (whatever they do) ..... any ideas? or can that even be done over the phone?

It would be quicker if there is a line already in that unit. Note though that there might not be ADSL ports avail even if there is a phone line. So you could wait. Then get Telkom to get ADSL sorted. If their system allows for it do a self install, you can always buy a GB of prepaid data somewhere. Then get your mweb contract. As long as you dont transfer your line to mweb it will remain yours so if you decide to change ISP's it's easier in the long term.
