This 120GB Seagate SATA of mine is getting very noisy and I'm worried it's going to die soon. It was manufactured in December 2005.

Do I need any invoices in order to return the drive to Ingram Micro?

TIA.

Still under warranty. Good to know I don't need PoP. :)

Do [very] noisy drives fall under warranty or do they have to be dead?

Depends on what sort of noise exactly. Any other signs of impending failure? SMART reports or alerts? Almost all HDDs these days have software-switchable noise dampening, and perhaps this got switched off somehow, though this is very rare. I'm sure Seagate's website has a utility which allows you to check the settings and reset noise-suppression to ON. Maybe worth a try. And of course gdiza is right: make a backup asap.

HDD is clean.

No other reports or alerts. Will check up noise dampening.

I'll record the sound and see what you guys think. ;)
