Why not "reset the net" the trollish way.
Set a date and have every person that is worried send out copious amounts of terrorist/drug/whatever suits your fancy sms's/emails/facebook posts/phonecalls along with pictures of pimples, warts open wounds, blue waffles etc.
In fact just get everyone to send out one sms a day with some random catch word in it and the whole system would fail and become useful only for real suspects.
Already pretty sure that most forms of SSL have either been hacked or the companies have been forced to open for governments.

I'm sure any one who is somewhat concerened about their online privacy would think twice about what they post on a public forum or social media site.

Are you seriously comparing a primitive african tribe, in SA's case the ANC, to a high-tech efficient organisation like the NSA ?
It is quite obvious that SA's ruling tribe actually does not what the internet is, or what it is used for.

agreed... but their friends may not be and they could post that info about you because they were there with you...

Torrenting more makes the N-A buy more harddrives. 
Imagine if N-S records all internet traffic. Supposedly that means they also record all torrent traffic. And for each 5GB movie torrented and downloaded, they collect that data for every upload and download, so that's a heck of a profit for WD, Seagate and Samsung.

Read somewhere that the SEACOM cable failures we experienced may have occurred to cover up the N-A backhaul fiber being laid to tap these connections using their dedicated repurposed nuclear subs.
