I have to resign from my current job tomorrow. Only problem is my manager, and the office director is not in the office tomorrow. Could I hand in my resignation letter to an associate director in my department? Or must go be to my line manager?

Why do these questions get asked so frequently on this forum?

No because people cant use a little logic and think..thats why

Phone Manager a tell him/her. Then email letter to manager. Hand original to HR and leave copy on manager desk.

This is what I'm going to do. Our HR is in jhb, so I'm going to hand in the letter to the most senior director in the office tomorrow, then email copies to my manager and the branch manager.

Why not hand it in today? Can't see why you have to wait until tomorrow unless you're trying to avoid confrontation.

what company you work for and whats your position

i need to apply for jobs

I'm a civil engineering technician.

Btw, this didn't materialise yet cause the new company can only send me the signed contract on Monday.

Because the search facility is difficult to use?

Because the result of the search is filled with replies like "Because the search facility is difficult to use?" instead of something usefull

That is called "burning a bridge".

In some cases that is called for... I am still working even though I have a company (makes it easier to get loans and to start it up without overheads) but when I leave here they will get 10 minutes notice and they will not ever be mentioned on my CV

It's more than a bridge that it is burned. It's a reference and a gap in your cv which you have to explain every time you look for a job.

Just walk away.
