Resistance was an opening title with the ps3... so it's quit unrefined... unlike GOW where they have had longer to make the game for the xbox...
These games are in a different gene... Now I have resistance, and it's a fast paced FPS. game, set in post WW2 and poses an alternate reality where there was a mutation (as far as i can guess as the sequel will explain it further) or something that had started in Russia and there is no known source for them(the chimera)... And you a soldier who has a strange immunities to them, and is able to gain there strength etc with out changing to them...
GOW is about(insert your opinion here with GOW)

Gow is about Subteranian beings called the locust emeging through the earths crust. Half of earths population is dead in a couple of hours. You must try to survive the horde because the come in different sizes. You get drones, Theron guards(elite drones) and other 40 feet things

I was in the fortunate position of being able to play both these games back-to-back last night.
As far as gameplay goes it really depends on your preference in games - Resitance is faster paced, Gears has a more strategic approach using cover, etc. As scotty mentioned above Gears is far more refined - the graphics are perhaps a little lower in polygons than Resistance, but the textures and lighting/shadows are better making it look more real - some or all of that could be due to the TV/Connection tho - the XBox was running on a better TV using VGA and the PS3 is using HDMI but the TV is not as good.
Bottom line is they are both excellent games, but when it comes down to it I'm a PS3 owner and if I had the dosh I would buy a 360 for Gears, but if I had only a 360 I probably wouldn't consider getting a PS3 on the strength of Resistance.
