on xp I have used partition magic a couple of times.

Oh ya , its for Win Xp .

Any idee where i can get the full version of partition magic

Win 2000 and XP has the DiskPart.exe command line utility to expand/extend a partition (no shrinking).

With Vista and Win7 you can Extend/Shrink the partition from Disk Management

Another vote for gparted. The download is a bootable ISO, so just boot off the CD and do your thing. I've up and downsized (more often) windows partitions many times.

Good to hear the bootable ISO works well. I've always just used GParted off my Ubuntu CD...
