[RESOLVED] Connecting to SQL express 2008 R2 over local network (Win 7)

lol...

I have 2 virtual machines (both win7 for this test)

The one has SQL server on (192.168.0.2)

The other does not (192.168.0.3)

I did the telnet 127.0.0.1 on the VM with SQL server (192.168.0.2)

And yes the VMs can see each other, ping, share files etc.

[help] Connecting to SQL express 2008 R2 over local network (Win 7)

Is SQL server browser running? Have enabled remote connections to the server in management studio>server properties>connections? I'm just throwing ideas out there that I've done in the past.

WE HAVE A WINNER :D

By default SQL Server Browser service was disabled, (SQL server was running) As soon as I set it to automatic, it allowed me to start the service. Split second later the database connected! Thanks all!

Congrats man, it felt like you ran a marathon

the strange thing is telnet 1433 still not working even though I have not connected and got everything else working? Guess it must be on a non-default port then? weird as I haven't changed anything.
