Unfortunately I'm stuck with a piece of **** Blackberry, which doesn't seem to provide that option. About a year more to go on this contract before I can get an Android phone.

geez ... if someone has an issue with you not responding just f**king swear them. Its a text message you can respond to it when ever. Why bother going through all the trouble of hiding if the message has been read etc.
If you want to be polite just set your autocorrect to change "BZ" to "im busy" and send that. Problem solved

I used to be that guy who often did not respond. Even to my close friends.
But I now respond to every message I get, even a simple "Ok" or I'm busy. But I always respond....
Some people just don't care enough to reply. I have a close friend that does not reply to messages.
Recently I asked her if she received the invite I mailed her. She didn't reply but a few days later she phoned to say yes, and apologized for not replying right away because she was very busy.
A week later I asked her if she received the birthday gift I sent her son. She didn't reply again. The least I expected from her was to say a quick yes, thank you. I mean, how busy can you be? I think some people use 'busy' as an excuse for rude behaviour.

It depends. If it’s not serious, I make nothing of it. If it is, I’ll call and follow up. Some people are careless and tend to forget their phones if not at work it’s at home or simply occupied.
On the other hand I can’t stand text chit chatting. So I avoid facebook, whatsapp and twitter. Expectations from people who aren’t even friends are too high!

I have had a friend who I have made the effort but there has been nothing back from this persons side so I can't be bothered anymore
