I am planning to format my laptop but I do not want to go through the process of syncing all my dropbox folders, I am linked to about 3 shared folders and I have my own 2 Gigs of data.

I am planning to use disk2vhd to create a VM just to be sure that I dont lose anything valuable.

Is there a way that I can "restore" these folders on a new install without downloading all that data again?

Just take your laptop offline, backup the entire folder structure (ie c:\DropBox) and then restore it after new install. I've done this many times.

Also if you have a 2nd PC on the network then enable LAN sync, setup your DropBox account and wait to sync accross the LAN - do the reverse when you have restored your laptop.

Back up the Dropbox folder > format and install windows > restore Dropbox folder > synchronize with Dropbox

Edit: Beaten :(

fanx guys!! hehe googling Dropbox backup and restore does not help much. lol.

Just copy-and-paste the dropbox folder to an external harddrive. No need for any special software. Just make sure Dropbox is offline otherwise you may have problems with locked files.
