Retailers hesitant to support Apple Pay

It's definitely going to be a struggle similar to the TV issue - the ones who own the content have entrenched and anti-consumer interests at play.
 
This is just going to take time like the card machines did... They weren't everywhere at first but now you find them in alot more places. If they go about this the right way we could see it work in over the next 5-10 years before it becomes a reliable method.
 
Why would I use such an expensive and supplier specific payment method if low tech and manufacturer-agnostic solutions like Snapscan is available?

+10... I wouldn't waste my money on Apple either. I'd rather wait/use the andriod alternative.
 
I kinda already use my phone for everything. I lost my cards ages ago and because they are linked to so many things I have been procrastinating in replacing them. Ive been using those QR codes to pay for most things lately, and in the rare times that the vendor is not linked up to the QR code system I use eWallets. Havent actually needed a card in a while now.

Good to see Apple catching up. You already trust Apple with your nude pics... I mean... what could go wrong?
 
Nail me to the wall, but I don't even know how I could operate an ewallet.

Anybody know about E-wallet 101 (link please)

In the FNB, you click "Send money" You choose a cellphone number and an amount. It gets sent to that cellphone. Person can draw the money at any FNB ATM. The QR codes are different and run by standard bank with an app called Snapscan. Even a brewery I go drink at has the QR code setup :D

<rant>Except they don't support Windows Phone and don't intend to... not that Apple Pay is a solution to that either </rant>

I love snapscan but the uptake as been less than phenomenal, at least in the Eastern Cape. So far I've been able to use it at my butcher… and that's about it.

It's still cash & card all the way.

Wow, wonder why PE is so far behind. Even the guy that sells coffee out of his coffee trailer on the beach front has it. I went and purchased mice yesterday at a pet shop and even they had it.
 
I was just wondering - is there Apple hate all over the world or just our country? Or just our forum?

1. I thought the Android alternative was already out?

2. GIven the Android phones had NFC years back (as all the Fandroids reminded us) where is the NFC payments

Its going to take time and its got nothing to do with whethe rits Apple of Android

Retailers need the NFC readers
Banks need to be on board - They seem to be in the US
Retailers need to be on board

All this will take time.

As things stand today I prefer the idea of fingerprint and NFC working together.
But that will standardise
 
Well there is an excellent reason why Snapscan is not the answer.
Snapscan works great at coffee counters etc.

But
- Its a little cumbersome for the user
- But the bigger problem is handshaking with the retailer. Imagine paying in PnP with Snapscan. Matching payments automatically to invoices will be a nightmare

POS has to be faster... not slower than a credit card.

I think there is all over the world but MyBB forum is sort of like the fridge in Ghostbusters. The energy is somehow more intense.

Takes me just as long to snapscan as pay with a regular card.
 
I have to be really honest and admit that I'm not hugely inconvenienced by paying with card :o

Nope, the biggest issue is waiting for your bill. Most of the time the waitress brings the card machine with her when she brings the bill too.

The biggest worry changing over to Apple Pay is how are you going to flash your Black Private credit card.
