Hey ALL

I wonder if this is possible,

I want to get my WAN ip of my home network when i am not there, i currently have Wget setup which is supposed to send the wan ip to our vega box, it works somtimes and doesn't work other times, the problem does not lie with the wget or vega.

I notice that in SAIX site, if you login using your ADSL username and password, and check logon history, it will show you the last ip it logged in with but not the current ip. and http://users.isdsl.net says I currently have no current sessions which is weird as my router and server definatley is on.

No 1. Setup a dynamic dns service.
No 2. I know WebAfrica show this info, switch ISPs

use dyndns which will automatically update your ip address everytime it changes. You'll access it using a hostname from dyndns.org for example odsdaemon.dyndns.org which will point to your ip address.

Once you register on dyndns.org, create a hostname.

Then on your Router at home go to Dynamic Dns, choose dyndns, enter your hostname, username & password and it should update.

Then from work instead of using the WAN ip address you use the host name created above.

Or move to Axxess www.axxess.co.za for your bandwdith and use their free vIP DNS service, which will always resolve your current IP address to a static name of your choice.

I think Webafrica offer a similar service as well.

my Wget is my "dyndns" updater, but its configured in such a way as to update my ip to our VEGA Server at verizon... What i want to know is what if it has not for whatever reason, updated my ip... can i somehow get my ip using my dsl account details? and unfortunatley... im tied in to contract... :(... just waiting for that to expire to change isp's and maybe save up enough to erect a WUG tower of my own:D
