I moved into a rental apartment and the wifi signal in my bedroom is too weak requiring the implementation of a mesh network. I would like to hardwire my router and satellite. My mesh routers are dual band and I have to leave the satellite in between living room and bedroom If connected wirelessly.

i have a telkom landline point in the lounge and my fiber ont also comes from this point. There is also a telkom landline point in the bedroom. As I do not have a Telkom land line number and do not want cables making the place unsightly was wondering if it would be possible to retrofit a cat 6 cable using telkom points from living room to bedroom and hardwire the two.

Remove the covers and see if there is any conduit and how free the cable is. If you can move the cable attach the network cable on one end and use the Telkom cable to fish through the network cable.

What do you mean by "retrofit" in this scenario?

Yes,wouldnt be gigabit though
And might not work that well either if it does work due to the wire quality

You could crimp in a RJ45 on pins

So i could use the existing cables then possibly. My internet is 100mbps so that is the speed I am hoping to get. Ive tried powerline - however Im only getting 50mbps at best and then it does not work during loadshedding

How do I know if the conduit leads to the bedroom

Have someone pull on the cable on the one end and look for movement or test continuity with a multi meter and a piece of wire from the one point to the other point.

In theory, though as mentioned wire quality is unknown

Ignore the Telkom landline points completely and simply install an off-the-shelf 'Internet over Power' networking solution instead.

See these articles for details.

You won't get 100mbps over the telephone cable...

It will only work if the two outlets are on the same circuit, which is not always the case.

You can, depends on cable, will be 10/100, but error rate might be quite high so wouldn't bother as most phone cabling is quite old and low quality.

Best is as others have said to see if there is give and enough space to push a Cat5e cable through, you do not want it shielded.

Otherwise you will need to set up some new wall chases, you can do it in the same spot.

It also does not work during loadshedding, i have a mini ups that provides battery backup

You can't leave your bedroom during loadshedding?

Thanks for the tips. from the sounds of it I will need to check if existing cable in the passage goes to the bedroom, and if the case replace existing telkom cable with cat 5e unshielded.
