My contract at vodacom expired.

I need to keep my existing number but I don't want to take out a further contract.
i.o.w go back to prepaid

is it possible?

Last time I wanted to do that they said I can't.
They did mention some weird prepaid contract thing for X amount but I just took out a new contract.

It sucks I know. If by any chance you succeed let us know.

Ask if you can port to another network, then port back in 3 months when you are allowed to port.

This normally works, you port to prepaid on another network, then port back to vodacom prepaid later on.

It's a bit of a roundabout way, but might work.

Did any1 got this to work maybe?

I will port to cellc and stay there a while.

I did that late last yer.

You are entitled to cancel the contract on one months' notice. When you call to cancel, inform them that you would like the number converted to prepaid.

It's offline for a little while at conversion.

Works fine. I have had my previous contract number (under contract for about 6 years, now) converted to prepaid.

This was on Vodacom. Can't speak for the others.

Yes, it was.
Nope, no fee.

Remember that your contract continues running when your 24 months are up. You keep paying each month, even though the original term has expired. The contract will only stop with the one months' notice of cancellation. Which you can do by calling them up and telling them you want to cancel.

You have to specifically tell them that you want the number to be converted to prepaid when you call them up to cancel. Have them confirm it, to be on the safe side.

I've thought of doing this - going from contract to prepaid. 'cept is seems a more expensive option when you can get a new phone and contact with a monthly fee and get the same Rand value in "free" airtime.

Am I missing something here? Why do you want to go prepaid?
