Reverting to Windows 10 Home edition

Hi All,

My computer is heading towards that status where it is so full of install, remove, bits and pieces everywhere that it is now getting slower and slower and just needs a clean install. Also, I have been using Windows 10 Pro for a while and would like to get it back to Windows 10 Home - for a specific (and unknown) reason I have some software that works perfectly on my laptop running HOME but not on my PC running PRO ... very confusing so I want to see if this corrects that issue.

So please could you help in explaining just how to go about doing a clean install and getting HOME edition on instead of PRO

Windows 10 is a virus. Just wipe the hard drive clean.

No I only have a HDD and don't have cash right now for a decent SSD

You don't need a decent one, just any one will improve your experience immensely.

You can get a 120GB drive for as little as R350 (although I would recommend at least a 240GB) use that as your main drive for the operating system and use your hard disk for installing your applications.

Run a disk cleanup https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-open-use-disk-cleanup-windows-10-a.html, Windows Defender scan, Defrag https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-defrag-your-computer-3506876 etc. as well

Well today's Windows 10 drama involves there being only two printers listed in the Printers section of control panel. But when I go into a program to print there are six printers listed there. It's the fun little things like that that make you wonder if this OS was designed by a 3 year old Orangutan.

I've been running the same Windows 10 install on a SSD now for about 2 years and I don't notice any appreciable slow down at all.

You don't have much choice.... Unless you own a copy of Windows 10 Home... you can't simply swap between Windows 10 versions willy nilly.

I've seen a similar issue before, it was only in a specific app though (can't remember which).

I've had very few issues with Windows 10 since using it, it's been a lot more stable for me than any previous versions too and boots and feels snappier to use.

The biggest issue for me on Windows 10 is the notification banner on the bottom right that blocks context menus for apps in the system tray - it drives me insane that I cannot move the location of that banner. Having this be my biggest complaint is saying something though for my overall experience.

Now that I think of it ... getting a SSD may be a very good option. I can use the HDD as an extra drive for storing photos and hopefully the SSD will also help with things like Photoshop

The question is ... if I get the SSD how do I install Windows 10 Home on it .... I have never done this before so excuse me if this is a very basic question

There are plenty of good guides online (Youtube) that can show you step by step what to do.

One other thing ... I have a separate HDD where I store all important documents. So fearing that something could go wrong during these changes, I decided that I would just unplug it instead of backing it all up.

However, when I do this, the PC will not start-up and gets stuck just after the initial splash screen

Any ideas ....
