I understand the difference between LCD & LED, where LED actually is an LCD just differently lit.....

What are the pros & cons between the following?

Samsung LCD(LED) UA32C4000 – R4989
Resolution 1,366 x 768
Or
Samsung LCD LA32C530 – R4499
Resolution: 1080p pixel resolution (1920 x 1080)

Look LED is still in it's infancy and your honest to god best bet is to physically go into the shop and view them. Most places will allow you to do so as it's difficult to say with those two, the LED might give you richer blacks, but it could also lead to bleeding, the other one has a better resolution but it's colours won't be as natural etc...

Depends on what you want to do with the TVs.

I've seen the LA32C530. Both are entry level and will be cr*p for SD TV/series/movies etc. For gaming or any higher definition/resolution source they will be good. For PC usage/gaming or anything that is 1080p, you'd obviously want the LCD (although remember 99% of console games are 720p or less). The LED is physically slimmer, and will probably be brighter, but the quality of 720p stuff will be very similar on both sets after tweaking them. Speaking of which, plasma will be best for 720p and less in the price range, you can get 42" of its goodness for R700 more than the UA32C4000.

LED-backlit LCDs are a gimmick for the most part.

Okay, seriously dude. I've been reading up on tv's here just today and honestly, you're a bit much. Stop spamming the entire bloody subforum. We all know about the TV by now, all you're managing is to take threads off topic with your fanaticism.
And there must be something wrong with your eyes if you call LED-backlighting a gimmick. In my experience, the results are very impressive and it's definitely something to look out for, even though they're still somewhat expensive relative to standard LCD displays.

Please show me where I have given incorrect information in the above post.

The OP never said what he will be using the TV for. So, in case he actually wants to watch SD TV/sport (a reason many people buy televisions), I'm now not allowed to suggest the the PS42C430 Samsung plasma, which would be best for SD TV/sport?

I may be a fanatic, but it is justified by the superb value for money you get in the PS42C430. At the end of the day, I am still sharing information that might be valuable to some. I am not trolling. If you have a problem, please ignore me. :)

Frowning upon sharing of information that might be useful to others... I don't even know what to call that.

Internet trolling: The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue.

Please point out to me where the OP requested ANY information related to ANYTHING other than the following two television models: Samsung LCD(LED) UA32C4000 & Samsung LCD LA32C530

The correctness of the information provided is totally irrelevant if said information is unwanted. You have said the same thing over and over and over in any even remotely related thread in this sub forum. Data duplication isn't anything but helpful. I don't want to ignore you because you do have valid, useful input. What's getting too much is that everywhere you go with said information, arguments occur. The OP isn't interested in a plasma. If he was, he would've asked about it. You need to learn to accept that people are allowed to have different opinions than you. At the moment you're being like one of those fundamentalist Christians that constantly badger people about not believing the earth is 4000 years old.

Absolute, utter horse ****. People asking questions as the OP has done are unlikely to go around reading alternate threads on the same topic. As such, any additional valid information presented in this thread would aid the OP in making the right decision. It might present scenarios he failed to consider, or it could serve to reinforce his initial decision. Either way, the OP wins.

Plus, seeing people get snarky is funny. :D

I'm not trolling.

You should see my conversion rate of people who were initially only going LCD that ended up going plasma... ;)

Fine by me if you take your bad attitude elsewhere. Don't forget to check out the PS42C430 when you eventually buy. No trolling, for realz!

I don't have a bad attitude, I just like things to be equally represented so that I can make informed, unbiased decisions. As for the PS42C430, the missus and I actually bumped into one on display during the weekend and seriously discussed getting one, so I'm hardly against it as it does offer superb value for money at present and I do like plasma.

Then you are welcome to stay. :D

Hey PostmanPot where's the cheapest place to buy that plasma?

I was looking at the TVs at Hi-Fi Corp and they have a 42" Full HD LED Sansui that I was really impressed with. Ok it's 120Hz vs the 200hz of the high end ones but its only R8999! The picture was stunning. They put on a bluray disc and I almost bought it right then and there.

Heya!

Not sure at the moment. Game and Makro chop and change their prices often.

I would phone around the smaller guys like Audio Vision (who I last heard had it at R5800), Tafelberg, etc and find the best price. Then, take that price to Game, and they will match the price and give a further 10% of the difference in price as a discount. So you could maybe pick it up for about R5700 from Game.

Just remember, Bluray/HD stuff looks awesome on most HD screens. You're getting far more value in the Samsung, and it's actually branded, unlike Hifi Corp's Sansui junk. Your SD TV and sport will look much better on the Samsung plasma, too.

Good luck and enjoy!

I don't see the OP ever winning TBH :/
