You should consider speaking to ZWN, I understand that they are working on a free service (without internet) spesifically for gaming etc. They have the best highsites and the best kit and the best coverage.... but not as far as Kosi

They might have the best HS in town but they still overcharge on there equipment and then expansion is limited to when they want to expand, where as we can get together as a group and plan our own expansion. This a group effort and we are proud of what we have 
They use MT, same as RBWUG, carry the warrantee and includes the installation cost. They also allow you to get your own kit (UMBT or MT) and do your own install BUT management of the router is not given...
I am not saying you should stop RBWUG, I am saying RBWUG could benifit from ZWN when they get their new service of the ground.

i have a problem with the fact that they wont give management of the router to us , as we own the routers
then again the only way RBWUG will benifit from it at the start will be if they allow us to add our equipment to there highsites for free or at a very low price.

Where did you hear that ZWN is going to do that? 
I am a ZWN customer and have not been informed of this at all. ALSO WUG's are meant to be community based and non profit, we need to have our own equipment that we can actually have access to (with zwn i dont even have the password to my own routerboard)

I agree completely with protzkrog , there is no way that a wug can exist within in a ISP’s network , the isp will just want control and your back to waiting for them to expand.
The group this side of the hot sun has discussed this yesterday and we all feel the same “ NO WAY IN HELL are we joining up with zwn or any other isp”
even if we have to struggle a little , we'll grow this for the community by the community!

Today (with the help of a few friends) we were able to link my house (Veldenvlei) to the RB-WUG. (Birdswood Highsight). Connection speed seems decent enough (FASTER than a 4mb DSL line
) and ping is below 30ms so im pretty happy. We had many problems on my pc with win7 routing but it seems to be fine now! Time to get more guys on and expand

Wug Web Site and SSID Naming Convention
Hello RB-WUG.
The Rest of the Wugs in SA are using the za.net domain space for their website, with their internal SSIDs following suite. I know that PTAWUG is different, but they are different because they hang those funny blue things from their towbars.
I am interested in the though process in choosing your comain name, and not following the rest or the Wugs convention.

what does it matter if the domain is .co.za or .za.net
www.ptawug.za.net works as well in anycase
the easier it is to find info about the wug, the better

Hi, things seem to be going smoothly so far. we had an internal wug meet to discuss a few issues, and good news.
We should be setting up another highsite in veld-en-vlei by the end of the month. hopefully that will give us coverage of the whole birdswood area, veldenvlei and some of arboretum(which should have a high site soon too).
We currently do not have full coverage of the meerensee area but we are working on a plan to get there soon. The only way this can work is if we all put our heads together and help out. Please if you are interested then come to the next wug meet where we can answer any of your questions.
Also any donations towards high sights or server equipment would be GREATLY appreciated.
If you have any queries please send death (Admin) a pm or go onto our IRC channel to discuss. (i should be on most of the day)

oh to answer a previous question, there are only 2 users on so far. me (aka Hydra) and death192 (aka reappergrimd). Havok should be on by tomorrow (birdswood). and as soon as the link from veldenvlei to arboretum is created another one of our members should be online in arboretum. making that 4 houses and about 6 users between them by next month if all goes smoothly.
