The same can be said about any district in the country. What the ANC is doing is inexcusable.

Two arrested for protests
Two men have been arrested in connection with a protest that turned violent in central Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Thursday.
Lt-Col Andre Traut said the men were charged with possession of stolen property and malicious damage to property.
A group of around 3500 people took part in what was believed to be a service delivery protest on Wednesday. Some protesters looted shops and vendors' stalls, and damaged property.
Traut said seven cases, including public violence and theft, were opened.
"The operational deployments of the SA Police Service were adequate to deal with the situation under the given circumstances as we have good reason to believe that our tactics yesterday ensured that the situation was kept under control and prevented further chaos."
The SA Communist Party said the media's focus on the looting had diverted attention away from the provincial government's alleged failure to deliver services.
"We believe the march was peaceful until it became clear to our people that the Democratic Alliance government was not interested in hearing their demands," SACP Brian Bunting district secretary Benson Ngqentsu said.
"Not a single media house has reported that our people were left for more than five hours without being attended by [premier] Helen Zille and her cahorts [sic]."
Mayor Patricia de Lille alleged the protest was organised by ANC councillor Loyiso Nkohla and expelled ANC councillor Andile Lili in an effort to make the city and province ungovernable.
She said the city had previously submitted evidence to the police linking the two to violent protests.
"I extend my empathy to the vendors and shop owners whose businesses were looted during the despicable anarchy that prevailed in the central business district", she said.
"Street vendors are an integral part of our local economy. They work hard under difficult economic times to grow their businesses."
She encouraged those affected to press charges against the organisers of the protest.
The city would provide CCTV footage to help identify the perpetrators.
"Nobody is above the law... the organisers of yesterday's [Wednesday] demonstration must be held legally liable for the looting and destruction of private property."

Wrong...the looters/thugs did that.
That was not necessarily my view Gary. But I agree that those of us who have no idea what it must be like to have lived in poverty, might want to tone down our "righteous indignation" somewhat. When I see posts here with people volunteering to kill the rioters, it's a little disturbing.

Main reason for this is jealousy on the side of the ANC. Jealous of a well-run city and well-run province.

I'm sorry, but personally I have a really hard time finding any form of pity when I hear about thousands and thousands of people occupying a space, many of them who don't have jobs or something to do during the day, yet somehow they can't make a plan to squash the bucket system (at the very least).
Laziness, incompetence, who knows? Sure, it's easy to judge from your pedestal etc. etc. but I can't imagine myself living like that and just taking on the chin. Neither can I imagine any of my friends or family doing the same. We'd at least keep our place tidy etc. (And yes, this is possible. My vacation through places in Kwazulu Natal last year took us past informal settlements that looked really good and the people there seemed to function really well as a community).
And above all, if things really go pear shaped the idea that it justifies theft, violence or spending all your time blaming others when you're one the one who voted for them just doesn't cut it.
I know the issue is much more complicated than this, but I have my own life and issues to worry about and if the majority who do the voting can't wake up and get someone to invest the money that I keep hemorrhaging daily (and get ****all back for) it's their problem and I will judge them harshly for it.

Next time a "gimme" hand is facing you, ask where the person is from.
The answer is not going to be mozambique, botswana, angola etc. It will be local. While people from the rest of the continent that land up here manage to look after themselves - the locals are either too lazy or too stupid to do anything for themselves.
Take all the somali's or pakistani's, most came here with little more than the clothes on their backs, but managed to get themselves started - are they really all more intelligent than the locals in order to accomplish this, or are many of the locals simply butt lazy & waiting for handouts ?
Shame the guilt burden of a middle class existence. As I said earlier if they weren't supporting the ANC you'd have a point. In any case how are they being oppressed when they are represented by the people they voted for at the very top?
Amazing as if people never heard of the concept of personal responsibility.
