RIP Bloated Goats (Lotus Notes)

Yoh, Lotus Notes, name from the past.
Use to install it on all my clients computers back in the late 90s when I worked for IBM in London.

Best part of Lotus Notes was you could type out your email and enter a date and time of when the email must be delivered. You click Send and off it goes and you can shut down your computer and leave the office early.
My daily reports always got delivered to my boss after 5pm everyday

At my last company (2014!) I joined ... And they had decided to use IBM Notes. It was a terrible system and incompatible with everything that most others used (ie Outlook) .

I felt like back in 90a when I was at work

Incompatible with Outlook. What was Outlook comparing to Notes? .LOL.
Notes could replace everything else in a business, but it required to setup a business collaboration plan to see all benefits. If you didn't, it was just an Email program (like Outlook).

Notes was stuck in the 90's.... I worked with it in one of the big banks and it was painful in the extreme

If, for example, we'd get a meeting request from an outside client ... it wouldn't display properly. Or if we get a mail from an external marketing company, the formatting wouldn't display correctly. IBM Notes <> IBM Notes worked and it had a few nifty features - but no one outside the company used it and things often screwed up. hat was 90% of the time

And if I remember my biggest issue with it was not being able to do format paint !

It worked as intended. It was an internal collaboration software.

Very sophisticated and innovative these days. I worked on it when it was still called Lotus Notes. What happened later, I don't know.

Remember the Vasa [PDF]

TL;DR: a good product get additional features, and capsizes due to bloatedness and buggyness.
