But.... i don't think Eskom can cope with the power requirements. Not even if all the power stations are up and all working 100%. There's so many people with cable theft and power being leeched from the grid (by people not paying for connection nor usage of electricity). Yet it's drawing the power from the grid.

Now it's winter time.. more people will be switching on those 1200watt and 2000watt 3bar and 4bar or even Ceramic Heaters and some even put on the Aircons in their home to create heat. This will put a major strain on the grid.

No, if all the power stations were up and working at 100% we'd have more electricity than we'd ever need for now.

We have the capability/infrastructure (at least on paper) to generate in excess of 45GW. South Africa's demand currently peaks at around 37GW during mid-winter.

No Koosi, you must believe in the lies our government spreads in order to calm the voting public. Remember: it's not a crisis if you have a plan and showerhead, he has a plan.

I am more intelligent than the voting public. I also dealt with clients who had major ties with that Eksdom company and the stories they told me put fur on my teeth.

It's magical...

They've probably stopped supplying the whole of africa, so there's some extra capacity for us

Jirre..it was cold here last night. I am not one for using heaters in cars or houses...but I was sitting here shivering. Just could not warm myself up.

Went and found the old 2KW bar heater and turned it on for around an hour. Problem solved. Into bed and slept.

You mean MW? If we had that sort of power we'd be travelling in time with Delorians

Eskom was established in South Africa in 1923 as the Electricity Supply Commission. In July 2002, it was converted into a public, limited liability company, wholly owned by government.

Eskom is one of the top 20 utilities in the world by generation capacity (net maximum self-generated capacity: 41 194MW). Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa. Eskom directly provides electricity to about 45% of all end-users in South Africa. The other 55% is resold by redistributors (including municipalities).

How true and accurate that is, no one will know.

No, I mean GW. :)

1 gigawatt = 1000 megawatts.

Not much you can do with just 45MW.

I've seen independent electricity experts such as Doug Kuni quote 45 583MW.

Oh. My bad. I must've read something wrong or misunderstood it.
