If you end up at Port St Johns you just have to go to Steve's Restaurant.

and don't intend to full up there. There is one petrol station and you'll queu forever. They actually put barricades up to prevent the queu from bringing the entire town to a stand still.

Avoid the Transkei areas on grant day, it's utter chaos. Once took me 11 hours from East London to Port Shepstone on the N2.

Noted - stuck for 11 hours in an aircooled car might just pose more problems than its worth
